Picked up at the COOP tonight for about $5... Poured into my slim tulip.. Good looking foamy white head has great retention and lacing ... the brew is fairly clear pale orange.

Nose shows tangerine zest and tropical fruity hoppiness... slight pale malt presence.

Flavor is nicely dry... expected for a PNW IPA... light bitterness up front melts in a fruity hoppiness mid-palate that lingers forever...

Good body for the style... nice carbonation.

Surprisingly good.. very refreshing... I should have taken advice and hit GoodLife when I was in Bend recently.... Will certainly make the stop next time.

GoodLife Brewing Company & Bier Hall - Descender IPA, poured into a Spiegelau IPA glass.

Look - Pours a cloudy caramel amber with a huge soapy head that retains well and leaves a great amount of excess lacing.

Smell - Aroma is some juicy citrus but primarily pine hops. Good hop/malt balance.

Taste - Hops take the lead form the start, juicy citrus with pine almost equal proportions. Ends more towards pine/floral.

Mouthfeel - Medium-bodied with low carbonation. Smooth and drinkable. Zero booziness, for 7% this brew floored me with the drinkability.

Overall - This is a great Northwest AIPA, it has great hop proportions and goes down insanely smooth. I enjoyed this for sure.

22oz bomber poured into a Sam Adams Perfect Pint.

A: Hop-hazed sunset gold topped by a billowy white head with good retention and lacing.

S: Instant hops, pretty massive grapefruit aromas with plenty of peach, mango and other tropical fruits, sweet orange, citrus peel, pithy as well with an herbal edge...faint pine too. Minimal malt presence.

T: In line with the nose, with a good medium bitterness level and sticky dryness...grapefruit, orange rind, sweet pine, herbal hops, hop oil, hemp seed, lingering dryness.

MF: Great body, not too dry or too bitter, moderate feel, lingering dryness, smooth carbonation.

O: Hop profile is exactly what I like. Bought this on a recommendation and don't regret it at all.

A wonderfully balanced IPA - pours with a strong head, evoking a sweet/citric aroma immediately. Taste is fabulous - perfect balance of bitter and citrus hops with a super clean refreshing finish.

Gorgeous hazy look - color resembles an orange cream soda when held up to the light. Poured from a can - quite carbonated and foamy, but the head has a nice texture and feel to it. Fruity citrusy aromas, light mouthfeel with a piney finish. Crave-able taste - this has easily become one of my favorite beers, a bummer since I can only find it in VT 3+ hours away! Obsessed.

Served cold from a 12 oz can into a shaker pint. No date stamp on the can.

Descender is a slightly hazy golden amber color with thick white head. It has good retention and leaves some nice lacing as it settles.

Aroma is hoppy and fresh with candied citrus, grapefruit, and pine.

Flavor is sweet up front with pale malts, caramel, and toast. Bitterness is at a good level for an American IPA. Pine is more dominant in the flavor than the aroma with the citrus playing a smaller role.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and nicely carbonated.

Overall a very good Pacific NW IPA and worth seeking out.

Great floral IPA! Hints of pine and nice citrus. Malt background not as intense as double IPAS consumed earlier this outing, lighter in color w/very fragrant hops. Will drink again!

Pours hazy orange with a small off white head. Good amount of splotchy lacing.
Smell is floral hops tropical fruit and minor bread dough.
Taste is piney bitter hops with enough tropical fruit and bready malts to back up the hops.
Mouthfeel is just right carbonation is just enough. Nice medium bitter and fruity finish.
Overall a tasty and easy drinking IPA from Bend, OR. I'm starting to think about relocating to Bend.
Update: 10/13/2015 Large off white with good retention. Smell taste and overall scores raised a bit.

12oz can poured into a 7venth sun tulip glass.

A: hazy deep oranges color with about a finger of tan head. Nice hue for an IPA.

Smell: Fresh piney hop smell. Very clean and smooth smelling.

Taste: Piney and citrusy hop flavor. Not overly hoppy. Bitter up front with a smooth finish. Seems to be a good, balance IPA.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a smooth flavor and a mild creaminess. Very nice for an IPA.

Overall: This is a very good IPA. It is very smooth and drinkable. Would definitely recommend this for anyone looking for an easy drinking IPA. Does not taste like a higher ABV beer.

Impressed. Really floral hop nose and the finish is nicely balanced, though predictably on the bitter side. Bright. Lovely.

Good head -- effervescent, with nice lacing throughout.

22oz bottle, dated 4/30/2013.... so about 2 month old.

$3.99 at Total Wine. Great price!

A: orange body with one finger head that disappears fairly quickly.

S: not much smell surprisingly. but what I do pick up is great. citrus, grapefruit, orange, biscuit.

T: very nice. It lacks a bit of punch but its nice and refreshing. hoppy but not overpowering. balanced with biscuit like malt.

M: I think this bottle is quite flat. this is the most disappointing part of the beer. maybe i just got a wrong bottle (UPDATE - I got some cans of this brew this time and carbonation was just fine). Changing my rating on this to 4.25.

O: solid and will be revisited. hopefully fresher bottle next time.

Grabbed a glass at Growler Nation on the way home last night.

The beer pours an orange amber color with good head retention and lacing. The nose is impressive in this IPA, showcasing considerable orange citrus, light pepper, noticeable pine and light dank weed. The flavor profile is more of the same, with the beer well balanced and showing good bitterness on the finish. The beer has some nice juicy tropial fruit on the mid palate, but it's not over done, and the finish is dry and bitter. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, finish is long and lightly bitter, and the alcohol is very well integrated into the flavor profile.

This is a really nice beer, and fortunately it's pretty easy to find around the Eugene area as well.

Purchased a 6 pack of 12oz cans for ~$12 at the Beer Cellar in Waterbury. Poured into a willy glass. A hazy copper orange with a huge, creamy head that dies down but persists and leaves some huge lace. Tangerine, pineapple and pine in the nose. Taste is of orange juice and grated orange peel, combined with pine and with a bracing, almost overwhelming bitterness. Mouth is medium bodied and silky with persistent carbonation. Overall, a bit different that what I'm used to as hop bitterness is the dominant character in this beer, but still an enjoyable IPA.

From BeerAdvocate magazine Issue #70 (November 2012):

With such greatness this IPA grabs the benchmark for the style and raises it a bit. Very refreshing to run into and American IPA that does overuse the usual “trendy” hops but rather finds a perfect blend. Goodlife without a doubt nailed it here from first whiff to the last drop.

STYLE: American IPA
ABV: 7.0%

LOOK: Clear copper hue, excellent froth

SMELL: Fresh hop resin, birch bark, tobacco, evergreen, grapefruit, bready, marmalade

TASTE: Medium bodied, biting smoothness, full hop jacket, ample bitterness, earthy, leafy, tobacco, mustard seeds, citrus rind, sticky, bready underneath, slightly warming, faint peaches

12oz can poured into a pint glass. No markings for canned or best by dates that I can see.

Pours pretty golden color, slightly hazy, with a very nice fluffy head, heads fades and leaves heavy curtains along the sides of the glass. Smell is fresh morning grass, a little bit of lemon or citrus. A little honey, maybe some clover.

Taste is a nice pineapple sweetness with a cloying, oily bitterness. They don't mesh together very well, they're distinctly separated. But there's a little citrus acidity that helps a little bit. It makes for an interesting flavor.

Mouthfeel is oily but soft. Overall, this is nice.

Pours a nice light amber with a decent white head that sticks around

Smell is pine and citrus, with a bready malty backbone to balance it out

Taste is mostly malty with highlights of pine and citrus, pineapple, mango, and gold raisins.

Feel is lightly carbed

Overall a nice IPA that I can say is almost on par with union jack.

Poured from a 12 oz can into a stemmed tulip.
Pours a medium to light amber with generous frothy head with nice retention.
Smells good, sticky hops, some spruce in the nose too.
Taste is insane. HUGE flavor, tropical fruit upfront that washes to sprucey resin on the finish with hints of black pepper and wintergreen. Nice bitterness too.
Mouthfeel is good.
Overall, this was a unique and very flavorful beer. I'm impressed!

Can (2013)

Acquired via trade
Thanks, libbey!

Slightly hazed dark orange. Moderately-sized near-white head. Incredible lacing. Beautiful IPA.

Bright orange and tangerine zest and flesh with just a hint of pine. Some simple grain and bread accompanying.

Moderate bitterness, citrus zest and flesh, tiny bit of pine, and very little malt sweetness though there is some accompanying bitterness. Very drinkable.

Medium bodied with moderate-high carbonation.

Before I knew it, my beer was gone and I was looking for another! This was delicious!

on tap at Double Dragon, Portland

Amber gold with a finger of white froth.
Big OJ, pine, and fruit nose.
Peach Danish, then orange, pine, and children’s Bayer hops.
Papaya finish and powdery linger.
Lt-med, crisp, slightly chewy.

Big, bitter, PNW IPA. Enough fruit, but cuts pretty hard with the IBUs. I could stay on this one.

Centennial, Chinook, Cascade, Galaxy, Warrior - “Hop-bursted” - does that help?

A: Light amber, good clarity, with a few small floaters. Thin head with low retention.

S: Very floral hops and sweet malt, with a tiny hint of mango. Aroma is a little muted.

T: Floral hops up front mingles with the malt background well, then pine and fruit make an appearance. Finishes with a smooth bitterness; pine lingers on the tongue.

M: Smooth, pleasant finish, nice.

O: I've not been too impressed with the flood of hoppy Oregon beers showing up in VT but this one is a winner. Extremely well balanced hop bitterness and flavor, nice malt backbone, dangerously drinkable at 7% ABV. Well done!

Bomber poured into a perfect pint glass. 12/2

Foam emerges upon the cap being lifted. Pours light to medium dark amber with thick full white foam. Grassy meadow nose. Lemon pepper. Flowers. Taste is a mellow malt with a nice peppy bitter. Soft before the bitter. Crisp finish. Solid.

Purchased at Top Foods. Very pretty gold color, almost glows. Nice white head with a bit of chill haze. Smells amazing. Pine and resin and woodsy overall. Taste is balanced with a slight sweetness and a nice hop punch. Mouthfeel is great too, nice and fully carbonated. This is the kind of IPA that sums it up for me. Had never heard of this brewery before and hope to find other offerings.

Pours a bright and hazy gold color with a large white head.

Aromas are nice, a mixture of pine, orange, and grapefruit.

Taste is hoppy, bitter and dry. Starts out with some notes of grapefruit, then settles into a bitter, pine like bite. Finish is really dry, and a touch of hard candy sweetness creeps in.

Mouthfeel is snappy, crisp, and dry. About right for an IPA.

Overall, a very nice IPA. It's quite bitter, almost puckeringly so, but I like it a lot. Not quite up to Boneyard quality when comparied to other Bend IPAs, but not too far behind. Plus the price was very fair at $4 for a bomber.
