Great creamy head, very good lacing, aggressive, hop bitterness. I've not had that many brews that use Galaxy hops, but I think I'm now a fan. Very nice example of the style; not overtly boozy on the palate, but a joyful, worthwhile beverage. And great value for money! Try it ....you'll like it.

A- Pours very hazy in the deep orange-golden body. A big head forms and retains forever with good lacing as well. The haze and color really a good looking beer in the glass.

S- This IPA's dominant scent is, of course, hops bitterness. This smell starts with a touch of pine, but quickly moves toward citrus and more fruity notes. Not terribly bitter on the whole, this scent is balanced with some sweeter scents underneath the predominantly bitter qualities.

T- Starts off with the piney hops profile, same as the scent. Bitterness ramps up a little bit after the pine flavor subsides a little bit. The citrus flavors kick in after the pine flavors and then both flavor profiles intermingle with each other. No malt is detectable in, around, or under the hops bitterness. Lingering flavor is strong bitterness, mostly of the pine flavor from the beginning of the drink.

M- Kind of thin, but medium carbonation, making it fairly smooth. Easy to drink for the 7% ABV, but the hops do make their presence well known on the palate.

Overall, a good and standard everyday IPA. Very west coast in style with high levels of bitterness and little to balance it out; this is a hop heads dream standard IPA.

From BeerAdvocate magazine Issue #70 (November 2012):

With such greatness this IPA grabs the benchmark for the style and raises it a bit. Very refreshing to run into and American IPA that does overuse the usual “trendy” hops but rather finds a perfect blend. Goodlife without a doubt nailed it here from first whiff to the last drop.

STYLE: American IPA
ABV: 7.0%

LOOK: Clear copper hue, excellent froth

SMELL: Fresh hop resin, birch bark, tobacco, evergreen, grapefruit, bready, marmalade

TASTE: Medium bodied, biting smoothness, full hop jacket, ample bitterness, earthy, leafy, tobacco, mustard seeds, citrus rind, sticky, bready underneath, slightly warming, faint peaches

Served cold from a 12 oz can into a shaker pint. No date stamp on the can.

Descender is a slightly hazy golden amber color with thick white head. It has good retention and leaves some nice lacing as it settles.

Aroma is hoppy and fresh with candied citrus, grapefruit, and pine.

Flavor is sweet up front with pale malts, caramel, and toast. Bitterness is at a good level for an American IPA. Pine is more dominant in the flavor than the aroma with the citrus playing a smaller role.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and nicely carbonated.

Overall a very good Pacific NW IPA and worth seeking out.

Great floral IPA! Hints of pine and nice citrus. Malt background not as intense as double IPAS consumed earlier this outing, lighter in color w/very fragrant hops. Will drink again!

Appearance: Pours a hazy amber color capped by several inches of foam; nice retention and some streaks of lace appear

Smell: Kumquat, mango and lemon/lime

Taste: A touch of biscuity malt and the hops take over, bringing the unusual tones detected in the aroma; the bitterness builds, after the swallow, with the lemon/lime and pith flavors dominant

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: This beer disappeared in the back of my fridge for several months so I am drinking it six months after the bottling date and that likely had an impact on the flavor profile; still, a decent IPA that I would like to try when fresher

Thanks, mabermud, for the opportunity

Freshness: Not indicated
Packaging: 12 oz. can
Glassware: Shaker pint
Purchased: Single from Let's Pour mailorder

A: Foam gushed from the can when I popped the tab, leading to a very tall white head. Beer is clear and a light amber color. Good lacing follows the head, which has excellent retention.

S: Smells of floral hops mainly, with some light citrus and tropical fruit aromas as well.

T: Moderately bitter in taste, with a nice balancing act between hops and malts.

M: Mouthfeel is crisp and clean on a light body. The beer finishes bitter and somewhat dry.

O: Overall a very nice IPA that seems perfect for the season as we head into warmer weather.

GoodLife Brewing Company & Bier Hall - Descender IPA, poured into a Spiegelau IPA glass.

Look - Pours a cloudy caramel amber with a huge soapy head that retains well and leaves a great amount of excess lacing.

Smell - Aroma is some juicy citrus but primarily pine hops. Good hop/malt balance.

Taste - Hops take the lead form the start, juicy citrus with pine almost equal proportions. Ends more towards pine/floral.

Mouthfeel - Medium-bodied with low carbonation. Smooth and drinkable. Zero booziness, for 7% this brew floored me with the drinkability.

Overall - This is a great Northwest AIPA, it has great hop proportions and goes down insanely smooth. I enjoyed this for sure.

on tap at Double Dragon, Portland

Amber gold with a finger of white froth.
Big OJ, pine, and fruit nose.
Peach Danish, then orange, pine, and children’s Bayer hops.
Papaya finish and powdery linger.
Lt-med, crisp, slightly chewy.

Big, bitter, PNW IPA. Enough fruit, but cuts pretty hard with the IBUs. I could stay on this one.

Centennial, Chinook, Cascade, Galaxy, Warrior - “Hop-bursted” - does that help?

Pours a nice light amber with a decent white head that sticks around

Smell is pine and citrus, with a bready malty backbone to balance it out

Taste is mostly malty with highlights of pine and citrus, pineapple, mango, and gold raisins.

Feel is lightly carbed

Overall a nice IPA that I can say is almost on par with union jack.

Semi cloudy amber,1 finger of off white head, spotty lacing.

Aroma is citrus and pine, malts in the mix but less noticeable cold.

Good citrus and pine hop blast, but as it warms the malt becomes more prominent and sweet, typical of a West Coast IPA.

Mouthfeel was light medium ,slightly thin, good carbonation.

This one is good, but seems more impressive if consumed quickly rather than savored. I found the upfront hoppy character fading as it warmed, and that slight butterscotch sweetness became more pronounced. Worth trying if you enjoy a hoppy IPA.

One of my go to IPAs.

A very good looking beer, nice head, fluffy and white.
Fruits and pine in the smell.
Taste is well balanced, very hoppy with malt backbone.
Mouthfeel is solid, nothing crazy.
Overall it is an amazing beer and I enjoy it every time...

Pours three fingers of head on a cloudy medium straw colored body.
The aroma is pine and orange. Pretty nice.
The taste is quite piney, a solid dry bitterness throughout. It has a good malt backbone.
The texture is crisp with moderate carbonation.
It's a good IPA.

A: Light amber, good clarity, with a few small floaters. Thin head with low retention.

S: Very floral hops and sweet malt, with a tiny hint of mango. Aroma is a little muted.

T: Floral hops up front mingles with the malt background well, then pine and fruit make an appearance. Finishes with a smooth bitterness; pine lingers on the tongue.

M: Smooth, pleasant finish, nice.

O: I've not been too impressed with the flood of hoppy Oregon beers showing up in VT but this one is a winner. Extremely well balanced hop bitterness and flavor, nice malt backbone, dangerously drinkable at 7% ABV. Well done!

Bomber poured into a perfect pint glass. 12/2

Foam emerges upon the cap being lifted. Pours light to medium dark amber with thick full white foam. Grassy meadow nose. Lemon pepper. Flowers. Taste is a mellow malt with a nice peppy bitter. Soft before the bitter. Crisp finish. Solid.

Pours hazy orange with a small off white head. Good amount of splotchy lacing.
Smell is floral hops tropical fruit and minor bread dough.
Taste is piney bitter hops with enough tropical fruit and bready malts to back up the hops.
Mouthfeel is just right carbonation is just enough. Nice medium bitter and fruity finish.
Overall a tasty and easy drinking IPA from Bend, OR. I'm starting to think about relocating to Bend.
Update: 10/13/2015 Large off white with good retention. Smell taste and overall scores raised a bit.

Im tired of having to write out the required this and that of beers and filling out the required space for writing reviews. If I could write short and concise write ups of these beers I would give all beers their due time in the rating process…After all I use this site for personal recollection more than anything...

I LOVE THIS BEER…Ive drank WAY more beers than Ive reviewed on this site. That being said, I see that Heady Topper is the end all be all of beers. Living in Vermont I know this to be some sort of phenomenon regarded as true. Im not here to tell you HT is a bad beer. Far from it. Its amazing. But is it overhyped? YES.
I honestly and 100% believe that this beer is the best APA in a can, dollar for dollar with HT. And best of all you can enjoy it at anytime because you don't have to hunt it down and wait hours in line for it.

What can I say? This 802 kid LOVES North-Left Coast hops.

Thanks to flexabull for this can in a box full of hops...& a new brewery to boot. Always happy to sample the new goods. 12 oz. can split with my wife in our little mini-Friday tasting.

Pour is a clear, filtered light orange with plenty of head, if you're into that, & it's all clingy. Oranges, mango, perhaps a touch of grapefruit are tracked into the nasal passages, perhaps best to just say floral & tropical. Understated. Or dignified. You choose.

Descender IPA is a balanced IPA. While that may be a complement in some quarters, it's not in this household. Clean, light malt is complemented by light, floral hops. Breadiness intrudes on the midsection, but a decent oily, resiny bitterness also arrives, albeit late, & tamely, though it builds. Smooth, dry finish is nice; ends much better than it arrives. But again, splitting the can with my wife does me just fine.

Everybody & their brother is making an IPA these days, almost literally. While this one is nice, it's gentle & doesn't make much of an impression either way. Pretty good.

Beautiful creamy head on the orange-tinged amber brew. Just a little lacing in the Duvel tulip. Mild but distinct aroma of apricots and flowery hops. Quite spritzy on the tongue with a mineral flavor. Light, sudsy mouthfeel.

Quite a friendly and pleasant brew overall. The hops are quite fragrant but not very bitter until you've had half a glass. Some sweet and roasted malt gives it a mellow mood. Pleasantly fruity with mango, a touch of grapefruit peel, and a little orange marmalade.

One of the more drinkable IPAs. Tangy, though, and a more than a little sharp. After suffering too many San Diego tongue bucklers, this is a pleasant change-up. I'd argue for an Oregon style to be added to the informal categories (e.g. West Coast IPA)-- mellow and drinkable. From the 22oz bottle purchased at Market of Choice on 29th in Eugene. Also tasted this from the 12 oz can bought at Hondo's Brew & Cork in Astoria.

Wow, was I surprised. You had to get up close but the smell was fine. everything about this beer is outstanding but i am not sure why the after taste is so short? Everything is right up front and center, very nice IPA. It drifts off quickly though.Either way I am impressed with GoodLife....lots of good brews/IPA's coming from Oregon!

Purchased at Top Foods. Very pretty gold color, almost glows. Nice white head with a bit of chill haze. Smells amazing. Pine and resin and woodsy overall. Taste is balanced with a slight sweetness and a nice hop punch. Mouthfeel is great too, nice and fully carbonated. This is the kind of IPA that sums it up for me. Had never heard of this brewery before and hope to find other offerings.

Bottled 12JUN13

Turbid amber ale with a soapy yellowed eggshell sheet. Smells of pine, resin, some mint, some other herbs. Flavor is nice and grapefruity, with sweetened lemon zest, some resin, some Vitamin C character and a slightly sweet malt backbone. Medium bodied with zippy, but lower carb and a watery finish. I like this beer. It's like a smaller version of Ruination - which is probably my go to IPA honestly.

12oz can poured into a pint glass. No markings for canned or best by dates that I can see.

Pours pretty golden color, slightly hazy, with a very nice fluffy head, heads fades and leaves heavy curtains along the sides of the glass. Smell is fresh morning grass, a little bit of lemon or citrus. A little honey, maybe some clover.

Taste is a nice pineapple sweetness with a cloying, oily bitterness. They don't mesh together very well, they're distinctly separated. But there's a little citrus acidity that helps a little bit. It makes for an interesting flavor.

Mouthfeel is oily but soft. Overall, this is nice.

A: Poured from the bomber into a Duvel tulip. Body is orangey-amber that is more bright orange when backlit. Small (half-finger) whitish head on top. No real lacing, but some occasional "legs" of foam on the glass.

S: Not as strong in the nose as I was expecting. Some sweet malt and a touch of juicy, citrusy hops.

T: Fairly sweet malt foundation, then citrus - juicy oranges and sweet clementines. Finishes with lemony pine bitterness. Some spice noted - likely from the alcohol. Warmth from the alcohol is noted in the belly after a few sips. Lingering modest bitterness offsets the general sweet impression somewhat.

M: Medium in heft. Carbonation is modest, leaving a slightly slick feel at times.

O: I like this as a departure from the normal 7% IPAs you come across. Sweeter than expected, with more of a juicy, orange-ish citrus as opposed to grapefruit. Reminds me of Stoudt's DIPA; think of it as a little sibling to that East Coast DIPA with the orange color and flavors. Easy drinker for 7% ABV.

Grabbed a glass at Growler Nation on the way home last night.

The beer pours an orange amber color with good head retention and lacing. The nose is impressive in this IPA, showcasing considerable orange citrus, light pepper, noticeable pine and light dank weed. The flavor profile is more of the same, with the beer well balanced and showing good bitterness on the finish. The beer has some nice juicy tropial fruit on the mid palate, but it's not over done, and the finish is dry and bitter. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, finish is long and lightly bitter, and the alcohol is very well integrated into the flavor profile.

This is a really nice beer, and fortunately it's pretty easy to find around the Eugene area as well.
