Reviewed 12/6/2008 (Tap @ the brewery):

Pours a red color body, with no head. Sweet malty taste, too sweet. Flat body. Some malts, and some strawberry fruitiness. Watery, weak flavor. Sweet aroma, with a subtle sweetness like candy or a soda. Some fruity smell, but flat.

Consumed May 14th, 2012 at the brewery.

Appearance: clear, maroon/caramel color with a nice one-finger off-white head.

No real aroma.

Sort of a sweeter Fat Tire. Caramel and sweet up front, virtually no bitterness. Finishes very clean with almost no aftertaste. Taste is very simple.

Smooth mouthfeel.

Not really a fan of this easy-drinking beer, but I can see it's probably good on a hot day.

Appearance is a very good red orange-brown tone with a small tannish head, but that's probably because it was in a growler and lost carbonation. The smell was delicious, but hard to discern any specific flavour notes from.
The taste was fairly complex for a rel ale, but a little too much so because I thought the hops were over the top. It has roasted malt bitterness to it as well, but derives too much of its flavour and bitterness from hops, hiding the malt flavours. The yeast flavour is about on par with the malt flavour and it shouldn't be. So, there are problems with this from a red lover's point of view. I wanted something maltier and less hoppy. But oh well, for a hoppy beer, it's alright.

Served in a pint glass from the tap.

A - Poured a medium copper, forming a thin and quickly dissipating soda like head. No lace. Looks like a glass of tea after the head faded.

S - Light caramel malt aroma dominates the nose.

T - Caramel malt flavor up front with maybe a hint of hops in the finish. Very light flavor with little more than the malt coming through.

M - Wow, totally watered down mouthfeel. This feels more like a light lager than an ale. No body at all.

D - The flavor and the aroma are just average. Nothing really stands out about this brew even though its their best seller and flagship beer. The appearance and the mouthfeel were complete let downs. If your in the area already, try it, but dont go out of your way.

A - Foggy amber body with an off-white, almost grapefruit-tinged head that doesn't retain. None of the heads on the beers I've tried at FBC have much staying power.

S - A faint malt scent. I'm wondering if I should blame the beer or my nose.

T - Nice spice. Dry malty aftertaste. Bitterness carries through to the finish. Aftertaste gets increasingly bothersome. Somewhat metallic.

M - Decent carbonation, boring front and weird finish.

O - Kind of a bummer. Would drink it again if it were cheaper and I wanted to get crunk.

Appearance - Hazy amber body. Small off white head with decent lacing.

Smell - Mild sweetness. Almost like raisins.

Taste - Strange sweetness... seems bright and artificial. Almost minty and sweet, like they dropped in a candy cane or something. Front end like an AAL. Clean finish.

Mouthfeel - Good smooth mouthfeel. Very frothy, light, and refreshing.

Overall - Mostly unimpressed but not disgusted. Was interesting.

A: Nice dark amber / brownish red. White head fades quickly.

S: Not very aromatic, but nice notes of fresh bread, brown sugar and mild citrus hops.

T: Good flavor but a little watery. Mild smokey notes, dried apricot and brown sugar up front. Hops bitterness kicks in mid palette washing out the malt flavor and persisting through the finish.

M: Consistent big bubble carbonation and dry hops finish.

D: If you are an hoppy amber ale fan this is a nice sessions beer. For me the hops bitterness kicks in too soon and persists to long.

Really liked this one. Poured dark amber red. Smelled of caramel malts and tasted of the same. Very smooth drinkable beer. I would definitely buy it again. It poured with a small head but all beers I had from here had a small head. Next to the APA this was the 2nd best beer.

Pours a thin layer of light brown head over a cloudy garnet colored liquid.

Smells chocolate musty, nutty, oatmeal creamy. Minimal hop character that comes across a bit like oranges. Some fruity esters of berry.

Chocolate malt with a touch of sour. Caramel is mild and fruity esters absent. Musty English hops, perhaps williamette or fuggles. Mineral/roast tang at the end can’t overcome the malt the way it should, but does dry out the finish. The finish is a bit rough on the dry, woody and not pleasing. This beer is like a brown ale that doesn’t work. Thin body with some dextrinous character. Modestly carbonated. This is a beer I hope I never repeat.

Amber with Ruby highlights. Off-white head. It smells roasted malty/caramelly with a hint of hops. But the hops shine in the taste! They help the malty flavors from becoming too intense. There is a hint of smokiness in the finish. Carbonation may be a bit high, the CO2 tingles on my tongue, but it lightens the malt, so I like it. It's very drinkable. My favorite beer at the pub.

Appearance: Very clear deep copper in color, with a moderate white head, and excellent broken lacing.

Aroma: Citrus hops are paired with rich, toasty malts.

Taste: Opens with nut-flavord malts, followed by lingering, slightly spicy hops. Finishes slightly sweet, with an underlying mild earthy note.

Mouth feel: Smooth, soft, and full, with suble carbonation.

Drinkability/notes: A well-made, quite drinkable example.

Quite dark for a red ale... it's only red when held up to the light. Frothy, tan head. Malty aroma, reasonably pleasant. Good malt flavor, with low to moderate hop bitterness. Typical crystal malt caramel flavor. Clean finish. Good, full body, with a creamy mouthfeel.

Basically, a typical amber beer that you can find in nearly every generic brewpub in America.

A typical red ale, on the sweet side. (it reminds me of a better version of Killian's Red Ale)

Pretty amber color in the glass with a moderate head.

Not that complex and compared to the other Fredericksburg beers it was rather lackluster. I think maybe changing up the hops would make it more interesting.

Enchanted Rock is a dark reddish amber color with a small, off-white head. Aroma is only of sweet, full malt. Taste is a standard sweet amber malt flavor, no hop flavor to speak of. Caramel malt rounds out a sip with additional sweetness. Overall, this is a straight-forward "sweet style" amber ale. The sweet malt flavors are full and fresh, and are the main reasons that this beer works so well.
