i won't give this the traditional review because i'm frankly not all that sure that it deserves it, but rather needs more of a warning...
i loved plum klaus for it's subtlety and raspberry klaus for its balanced but lively fruit presence, but the black currants was just overkill...i don't know if they dumped in too much by mistake or just don't know what they're doing anymore (or maybe never did), but all you got was tart fruit, to the point of being very unpleasant.
could this possibly be the case of drinking a beer too fresh?!
summary: not worth the $40 or $x in beer to trade for it...not even close

A - Pours almost jet black with two fingers of creamy light brown head. Lacing sticks around all the way down. Head retention is strong.
S - Fig, Cherry, Raisin, hot bourbon.
T - A bit of unpleasant lemon flavor really knocks down the taste a peg. Lurking behind that flavor are the currants, roasted malts, and a bit of bourbon. Finishes a bit unpleasantly bitter
M - Good, goes down well. Not too thin for 7% (?) ABV
O - I hate to say it. I enjoy regular Alpha Klaus more. The aftertaste is a real bummer. Overall, it's a bit of a mess. I'm a little pissed I dropped $40 on this. To paraphrase W.C. Fields "There's a craft beer sucker born every minute"

750ml bottle into a snifter
Appearance - pretty standard look of a BA porter. Pitch black. Good amount of carbonation. Settles into a ring of head around the glass. Leaves some soapy lacing.
Smell - when first opened, it was overpowering booze, almost to the point of pure ethanol. After pouring, and letting it breathe a while, it settled into smelling just like dark fruit and bourbon.
Taste - the Alpha Klaus base is all but gone. This tastes like boozy & carbonated dark fruit juice. Imagine pomegranate juice put into a bourbon barrel.
Mouthfeel - thin body, medium carbonation, dry finish that's a tad sticky on the lips. Almost drinks & finishes like wine.
Overall - LET. IT. BREATHE. When I first opened it, I was honestly worried it would be a drain pour. After letting it sit and breathe, it definitely opened up and became at least semi-drinkable. Still a complete waste of $40. Very disappointing, especially since regular BA Alpha Klaus was so damn good. Oh well. Lesson learned!
