American Pale Ale (APA) |  5.00% ABV

Availability: Year-round

Notes/Commercial Description:
5.0% ABV, 30 IBUs - This beer is 3 Floyd’s American “Mild” Ale. With a more assertive hop profile that British Milds and a relatively low alcohol content this is a great session beer that still has Pale Ale characteristics. Pride and Joy is a golden color with a fruity nose and a light caramel sweetness to balance the crisp finish. A truly refreshing ale that drinks easily.

12oz bottle in a Guinness pub glass.

A- Poured a dark golden copper color with a dense 1f head. Slight haze. Rings of lacing.

S- Mild fruit and flowery hops with some sweet light bready malts. It smells a bit like brewed tea.

T- Light malt with some orange citrus hop flavor.

M- light body, good carbonation. Dry, mild hop finish.

O- I'd call this a good and drinkable session ale.

Pretty decent mild pale ale. This is my first review of a Three Floyds beer, had it on tap at the Mellow Mushroom in Bowling Green. Almost a session beer, reasonably low booziness and some pretty good malt flavor with a bit of hops. Grassy taste. Pours a goldish yellow, good color. Not bad.

Thanks to JLindros for giving this to me. Poured into my Duvel tulip.

A - Poured a nice crystal clear amber hue with a good 3 finger off white head that faded to leave a thin creamy blanket and spotty side lacing. Head really billowed out on this one 4 (x .05 = .2)

S - Aromas of some light spicy hops, grass, lightly herbal with some faint malt sweetness. Pleasant aroma, the spiciness is nice. 3.75 (x .2 = .75)

T - Taste is on the sweeter side of pale ales. Lots of sweeter malts, presumably denoting that this is older, the aromatic hops are all but gone on the taste. No spicy hops, some faint older earthy/grassy hops, light fruity hops. Caramel sweet malts. I understand this is what Three Floyds is going for in the style, however, this probably tasted much better and 'true' when it was fresh as opposed to the tired brew it is now. 3.25 (x .45 = 1.463)

M - Mouthfeel is decent enough, lighter carbonation. Due to the age there is just a touch of syrup here. A shame. 3.5 (x .1 = .35)

O - Overall this was probably quite the tasty beer, when fresh. Now though it is a bit old and tired. While still tasty and quite aromatic as it drinks now it is a shell. 3.5 (x .2 = .7)
