Appearance: Very dark amber, not quite brown. Head is generous and leaves plenty of lacing.
Smell: Big malt presence in the aroma.
Taste: Malty and slightly sweet. Maybe a little butterscotch; it is a Scottish ale, after all. Has a little punch to it, but I would have guessed 6% ABV, not 7%.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied and average carbonation.
Drinkability: What this beer lacks in complexity, it more than makes up for in drinkability. You might have to watch out with this, because it goes down so easily that before you know it, you've had one too many.
Notes: This is a great brew when you get a hankering for malt. Not quite as good from the bottle as it is on-tap, but still one that's nice to have around often. Surprisingly, it has a little more kick to it when from the tap, while many beers mellow slightly on-tap.
