Pours a slightly murky caramelly brown with a small cream colored head that dissipates very slowly, leaving some lacing.
The smell is good, but not great. Sweet caramel and a smokiness dominate. There is also an undesirable plasticky aroma. So I take a sip. Mm, now this is better. The caramel really comes out at the start in its sugary goodness, then the more complex malt hits. It's smoky and bready, with that signature scottish ale peatiness. The finish has some significant hop bitterness, though not compared to Three Floyds usual offerings. This is definitely pushing a 4.5, but lacks the punch necessary to really wow.
The mouthfeel is also good but not great, becoming a tad too thin when the carbonation wears out. This is very drinkable.
