This guy pours a mahogany brown with rich ruby red highlights. The head is modest and retention isn't too bad.
Right off the bat, I get some olive off tones. They are somewhat difficult to get past, but there's a load of toasty caramel malt in there. Smoke and some roasted nutty flavors are also easily distinguishable. The mild hop profile offers just an accent of herbal character, and actually seem to intensify as it warms.
There is a load of flavor in here, and even the hop presence is kicked up a notch. Alcohol isn't hidden either, it certainly makes it's mark on the overall character of the beer, but not in a bad way. The flavor really evolves as it sits and takes on new flavors constantly. Mint and lime esters start to come out to accompany loads of caramel and spice.
The body is on the light side of medium. It goes down pretty slick and finishes chalky and dry. Overall it's a good beer, but struggles to live up to 3F's other offering. Perhaps not being hop-centric is a hindrance on that, yet the flavor is solid and I would certainly drink another.

From a bottle into a pint glass.
A: pours dark red with about 1/4 inch of thin foam that disappears quickly. I did get several rings of lace that clung to my glass through out.
S: dominated by yeast and malts.
T: a bit sweet at times giving off brown sugar notes. Yeast, malts, and a bit of oak bitterness at the end.
M: smooth and quite easy drinking. I would say medium for mouthfeel
O: not even close to my favorite from Three Floyd's or even a Scottish Ale for that matter. Not bad...but not great either.
