Robert the Bruce: This is one of those number of beers that Ive probably had at least 25 times, yet never got around to reviewing. This is a Scottish Ale, a style which I must disclose is not a particular favorite of mine. Poured from a 12 oz bottle.
Pours an opaque orangish/brown, with a fair amount of tannish head. Slight lacing down the side of the glass.
The taste is, happily (at least to me) missing cloying sweetness that frequently ruins the enjoyment of Scotch Ales. Rich maple flavors, mixed with just a bit of coffee flavor are noted. In addition, and although it probably just my imagination, there is a understated hop profile running throughout this beer. I swear that deep into the aftertaste, I can taste just a wee bit of the Dreadnaught.
Smooth mouthfeel, but a little heavy in sweetness and alcohol to make this a session beer.
