Notes/Commercial Description:
30 IBUs - A bold Scottish ale with a complex malty body derived from roasted and crystal malts balanced with just the right combination of hops. This ale pours a deep ruby color, has a sweet malty nose with layered caramel and roasted notes and a full body. Robust yet smooth, Robert The Bruce is a malt lover’s delight.

12oz bottle sent to me by demcorhip. Thanks man! poured into a snifter.

Pours quite dark with a bit of plum, orange, and brown colouring. Fairly mild carbonation. A vigorous pour gives about 1/8 in of head, and just a swirl of lace. Just a little on the flat side appearance-wise. Aroma is very malty with some buttery caramel notes, vanilla, plum, raisin, and a bit of chocolate with alcohol driving it all straight to the pleasure centre.

Flavour-wise, there's a bit of licorice, caramel, cocoa, plum, raisin, and definite alcohol. Enjoyable herbal character to it as well. It's not as complex as a lot of Scotch Ales I've had, but it's enjoyable and the flavours all stand on their own, not muddy or awkward. Mouthfeel is medium carbonated, and the body is much lighter than I was expecting. It's really quaffable, and at 7% you can have a couple at least.

From a bottle into a pint glass.

A: pours dark red with about 1/4 inch of thin foam that disappears quickly. I did get several rings of lace that clung to my glass through out.

S: dominated by yeast and malts.

T: a bit sweet at times giving off brown sugar notes. Yeast, malts, and a bit of oak bitterness at the end.

M: smooth and quite easy drinking. I would say medium for mouthfeel

O: not even close to my favorite from Three Floyd's or even a Scottish Ale for that matter. Not bad...but not great either.
