Notes/Commercial Description:
30 IBUs - A bold Scottish ale with a complex malty body derived from roasted and crystal malts balanced with just the right combination of hops. This ale pours a deep ruby color, has a sweet malty nose with layered caramel and roasted notes and a full body. Robust yet smooth, Robert The Bruce is a malt lover’s delight.

Had a 12 oz. bottle of this at Emerson's Ale House. Served in a pint glass.

A: Pours a solid brown body with dark, see through amber edges. a 1.5 finger light khaki head forms on the pour and stick around for quite sometime. It leaves nice sticky and splotchy lace once it receded to a thin collar.

S: Sweet toffee malts with subtle undertone of light bitter bakers chocolate. There is that nice little pop at the end of the typical grapefruit/citrus like hops that FFF imparts on a majority of its brews.

T: Nice toasted malts with a nice sweet toffee taste as well. Slight is slight coffee blanket in the middle that moves towards a very little citrus fruit finish.

M: Medium bodied with a nice carbonation and prickly mouthfeel on the palate.

O: A very good scotch ale. I enjoyed the slight hoppy undertone I've come to love throughout the FFF beers. Very well balance.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass. Very dark brown that lightens towards the bottom of the glass. One finger of off white head that lingers a bit with a small amount of lacing.

Sweet malty smell but faint.

Smooth malty taste up front with a sweet sort of alcoholic after taste. But not bad alcohol, a nice addition.

Mouthfeel was a bit lacking. Pretty thin. Light on carbonation.

Overall, I like this. I had my first Scottish ale about 2 weeks ago when I cracked this six pack so I don't have much to compare to but once again 3Floyds puts out a quality product.

Pours an effervescent brown/auburn with 3 fingers of tan/brown head. Above average lacing average head retention

S: Much malt, some smokey notes & caramel

T: Rich maltyness & some brown sugar & toffee & a touch of peatyness up front. Dryness & maltyness dominate as this warms, plus a touch of boozeyness & cakeyness. Finishes dry, sticky with toffee notes & a kiss of leafy hoppyness

MF: Medium bodied, but over gassed a touch

Nice, not perfect take on the style, really hits to spot on cool/cold North Carolina evening
