Notes/Commercial Description:
30 IBUs - A bold Scottish ale with a complex malty body derived from roasted and crystal malts balanced with just the right combination of hops. This ale pours a deep ruby color, has a sweet malty nose with layered caramel and roasted notes and a full body. Robust yet smooth, Robert The Bruce is a malt lover’s delight.

from notes of several tries - on tap at FFF, growler, and bottle.

A - dark brown with a hint of red, small tan head, very little lacing.

S - malty, sweet, slightly smokey, light hop aroma.

T - carmelly and malty, dark fruits, light hops. Excellent balance.

M - medium bodied, moderate carbonation, dry and crisp.

O - excellent. Perfect beer for those not that into craft or for someone who isn't a hophead.

Poured into a standard pint glass.

A: Hazy, dark ruby in color. Tan head, 1 finger, dissipates quickly with residual foam lightly over the center and rim. Lacing non-existent as foam glides down to fluid level.

S: Caramel front and center, honey, and piney hops. Hint of booze.

T: Mirrors the nose, caramel and honey for the malt, very forward. Piney hops on the back with a very slight astringency, not unpleasant, almost peaty. Catching a burnt orange citrus as the beer warms.

M: Medium body, marries well with the malt forward flavors. Carbonation is low to medium. Finish is semi-dry.

O: Tasty Scottish style ale. Balance is a touch too malty for my taste; could use a bit more hops but is appropriate for the style. Won't be my last of these.
