22oz bomber picked up last week at the brewery.
Pours with a large, fluffy / foamy white head over a fairly clear golden-to-amber body with some carbonation flowing up. Plenty of sticky lacing.
Aromas are sharp up front - Fresh citrus and pine hops dominate. Dark, multi-grain bread quality from the malt. Touch of astringency from the alcohol. The malts become more pronounced as it warms, and even take on some heavy cardboard.
Fairly thin mouthfeel for the style, but on the heavier side overall relative to a standard IPA. Decent carbonation without being distracting. Flavors are heavy on the hops... lots of grapefruit, pine, mango, and some citrusy aspects. Seems like quite a variety of hops in this one. Caramel sweetness is quite prevalent, but not over the top or distracting. The aftertaste leaves you with solid bitterness, and dry mouthfeel.
Another heavy metal quality beer from Three Floyds: Complex, high-quality, and pushing the envelope of decency.
