22 oz. bomber poured into a Dogfish Head signature glass (January 12, 2010). No 'bottled on' date on the bottle or label.
Eyes: Pours a clean copper color with significant fluffy head to the top of the glass. Very thick lacing and a wad of foam floats atop the beer as I drink it down.
Nose: A very potent sweet mango-peach aroma, citrus grapefruits arise as the beer warms. One of the better bouquets I've come across.
Tongue: A much more bitter pineyness that the aroma, a strong, sweet grapefruit taste dominates. Sharp and biting, the flavors smash the palate with bitter citrus, but the sturdy sweet malts prevent the bitterness from complete domination.
Mouth: Sharp, bitter and biting, exactly what they were going for. The carbonation is well balanced and assists the depletion of the hop aftertase.
Libation: This is a hop bomb if there ever was one. Due to the tremendous flavors, the 9.5% ABV is not felt on the tongue, which is impressive. Very tasty and drinkable for such a big beer, but the alcohol and bitterness don't make this sessionable, one bomber is enough for me thanks. It certainly ranks among the top DIPAs in the world though, and I'll be back to try this again, most likely tasted against other quality DIPAs (DFH 90, Pliny, Hopslam, etc).
