just opened the bottle, smells like funky high end weed. Surprisingly pale color, like a very deep yellow with some orange/brown. Giant sticky white head. Even with letting this beer breathe, still smells like sticky weed. Fruit scents begin to come forward, dried apricots and peaches. As the beer really has time to air out and the smells escape, smells like lightly toasted bread with a tropical fruit marmalade seeping into your bedroom to wake you up in the morning.
Took two sips to have the hops hit me and wow, this beer is attacking my mouth. Alcohol heat doesnt hit until you take a few breaths after sipping a few. Probably the most tannic beer i've ever had. Still feeling the resin tingle my gums 5 minutes after the sip. Sweet jam like fruit on the tip of the tongue followed by huge rolling malt flavor. Caramel covered fruit bowl rolls into super hop resin. Oily hop flavor covered the back of the tongue. Bitterness is brash and bold and hits stronger after you finish swallowing.
This is a giant beer. Not as complex as I expected to be, nor was it that super west coast ipa i expected it to be but that might be a good thing. This is another beer I've discovered on my chicago trip that proves that there's a midwest style ipa. Not nearly as fruity as a west coast ipa, but not as dry an english ipa. It takes the midwest ipa and make it huge, and it's beautiful.
Big, simple, tasty, and the hop bomb you want from a DIPA.
