Style | ABV
American Double / Imperial IPA |  9.50% ABV

Availability: Year-round

Notes/Commercial Description:
9.5% ABV 99 IBUs - A hophead’s dream beer. This Imperial India Pale Ale has an opening salvo of mango, peach and citrus hop aromas that sit atop a pronounced caramel malt backbone. Although Dreadnaught is a strong and intensely hoppy ale, its complex flavor is both smooth and memorable.

Poured into an Arrogant Bastard Ale pint glass. A bright orange honey toffee color. Unfiltered appearance shows large carbonation bubbles that lead to a a two fingered off white creamy head. Lace is sticking in a nice ringed pattern.

Smell is um, bright citrus hopped. I'm smelling orange and kumquat.

Taste is citrus bitter of yellow grapefruit oil. Quite a bright and fantastic flavor profile.

Mouth is smooth and carbonation is round. Um, body is balanced and long with a dry finish.

Overall, this is a fantastic balanced American IPA. Thanks to jlpepper13 for this Midwest classic.

poured into tulip glass.

Appearance: A brilliant and clear yellow bodied beer with a massive bone white head. Easily 4 fingers of thick dense head from a moderate pour. As the head receeds, it leaves really thick lacing and the head is really chunky foam with many small bubbles. The head never seems to die or maybe i am just drinking this beer that fast! This is a sexy looking beer!

Smell: This beers hops profile is quite nice! You get a little bit of the malts is the nose as a faint bready and biscuity smell. The hops smell very diverse tropical, citrus, floral and earthy. Pineapple and mangos; Oranges and lemon; piney and grassy. Smells great!

Taste: This beer is hop forward. The beer has a big malt profile, but it does balance out the huge hops present. A little unbalanced, but its a minor thing with this beer. The hops are at the high end of moderately bitter. Prominent hops flavors of pine, grapefruit, grass, and pineapple.

Mouthfeel: This beer is a medium bodied beer with moderate carbonation. It finishes clean with a mild amount of bitterness that really lingers for a while.

Overall: This beer is a fantastic beer made by 3F. Its a great DIPA. My only request is put a freshness date on this beer 3F! Paired this beer with wisconsin sharp cheddar. Yum! The cheese bring out the malts and creaminess of this beer. Always a great pair together!!!!

Thanks zrab11 for the trade.

A – Pours a golden blonde color with a slight orange tint and white froth. The white head sticks around and acts as a thin cloud resting on top of the brew. Some good lacing here as well.

S – Very nice cistrus tones with some piney malts. A good mixture of pleasing scents on this brew.

T – a great blend of pine, citrus with some floral notes.

M – Mild carbonation with some slight stickiness. Coats the tongue very well and is smooth going down.

O – a very well rounded IPA. I'd love to get my hands on more. Tasty.

Pours a golden hazy orange with a foamy globular white head.

Spicy citrus up front followed by grass and pine.

Tropical and citrus hops.  Mangos and papaya.  Finishes with pine.  Super balanced with malt.

Medium-full bodies with good carbonation.

Very nice and super smooth tropical DIPA.  Worth seeking out.

Major props to BA Chaney for bringing this back from the brewery for me- Thanks Brandon!

Dreadnaught pours a beautiful orange/yellow in color with a nice one finger white head. Massive sheets of lacing on my snifter glass. This brew is fairly clear, and easy to see the good carbonation rising from the deep. Holy Crap. Great nose on this one! I could smell it the second the cap came off. Lemon, pine, grapefruit, hops, pineapple... Really amazingly good, balanced citrus nose on this one. I can't think of anything to improve. Woah. The taste is amazing. This is a hophead's dream beer, and thus, I love it. Hops all the way around w/ the malt backbone holding it up, but out of the way. The hops are literally destroying my palate half-way through the bottle. Awesome. A small citrus flavor on the back end before the hops comes and destroys what's left of it. Feel is smooth on the front and end, and hop bite everywhere else. Great carbonation as well. Overall, this is definitely one of the best beers I've ever had in my life. If you have a chance to try it- RUN- and pick up as many as your arms will hold. Really glad I got a chance to try this beer. Cheers!
