Style | ABV
American Double / Imperial IPA |  9.50% ABV

Availability: Year-round

Notes/Commercial Description:
9.5% ABV 99 IBUs - A hophead’s dream beer. This Imperial India Pale Ale has an opening salvo of mango, peach and citrus hop aromas that sit atop a pronounced caramel malt backbone. Although Dreadnaught is a strong and intensely hoppy ale, its complex flavor is both smooth and memorable.

Thanks, Yeahnatenelson!

Appearance. Pours a hazy, gold-amber with a small white head.

Smell. Fresh citrus fruits, nice toasty malts.

Taste. Big orange and grapefruit rind, nice toasty malts. Good bitter pine sap and grapefruit rind finish.

Mouthfeel. Medium body, medium carbonation.

Overall. Fantastic, tasty ipa. Could use another bottle here, this one's going too fast.

Bottle (no bottled date), poured into a snifter.

A: Half a finger head, a bit lighter orange-y color than most DIPAs.

S: Mango, grapefruit, pine, orange peel amybe?

T: Amazing. One of the best tasting DIPAs I have ever had. Extremely well balanced and I can't even taste the alcohol at all. Mango, citrus, grapefruit, malty sweetness kicking in in the middle, it surprisingly does not finish bitter, although the lingering after taste is there (typical of this style).

M: It was a bit more carbonated that I would have liked, but it makes this beer more refreshing and easier to drink. Lighter body than most DIPAs.

O: I absolutely loved this beer. I wish I can get this all-year around (around me that is). I would not mind trading for another bottle or two during summer time. It's the most refreshing DIPAs I have ever had.

Hm Dreadnaught. Bright amber body with a nice steady stream of carbonation coming from the bottom of my glass. Thick frothy almost pasty offwhite head floating.

I get a ton of alpha acids and hop extract oils in the smell. Sticky sweet lemon oil and orange zest. Powdery malts in the background.

Now that is one thick beer. And sweet. Might be the sweetest DIPA ive had. Oranges and mangoes from the hops, and a nice sweet backbone. Everything in this beer is dont to accent the hops. It feels so damn citric and juicy, like biting into an orange from a commerical that just squirts sweet orange juice everywhere, filling your mouth with sweet orange and lemon juices.

After the initial hop flavors subside, the bitterness comes in only to balance things out. I can see why this thing is only second really to Hopslam. Hopslam is more sticky with its malt while Dreadnaught has more a powdery feel.

This is the gold standard of IPAs. If I can't rate this as perfect then I don't know what I would or could rate perfect. It has great color, clarity, smell and taste. Perfect hop flower aroma and really packs a wollup! Definitely it's a special occasion experience. If you want to treat yourself then this is the one.

Bomber into a Duvel tulip

A: Pours a beautiful golden copper/orange. Solid lacing throughout that sticks to the side of the glass.

S: Lots of pine and citrusy goodness. More subtle than most doubles in the nose.

T: Just downright delicious. You can barely even taste a hint of alcohol on this. Tons of hops and pine with a nice malty undertone. Just the right amount of sweetness with not being an overkill.

M: Light bodied and very drinking with nice carbonation.

O: This is still to this day one of my favorites. In my opinion 3 Floyds best offering to date. Just an awesome well rounded beer. Seek out if you have the opportunity and you will not be disappointed.

Thanks to fritts211! Hope you enjoy your KBS!

A- Gorgeous golden hue with a big fluffy white head

S- Somewhat faint but whats there is amazing. Pineapple, oranges, grapefruit and pine. Just phenominal

T- Back, back, back, its gone! FFF knocks this one out of the ballpark. All of the flavors from the nose carry over even stronger into the taste. Best DIPA I've had the luxury of tasting

M- Super duper smooth, I love the mouthfeel so much and wish all DIPAs felt like this

O- Best DIPA I've ever had (sorry Hopslam and Citra) This is out of this world good

Enjoy withing my good friend pschul4.

A: Pours a mirky, dark golden color with about a 2 centimeters of head. Leaves quite a bit of lacing.

S: Wow. Smells fantastic. Citrusy as hell. Lemons. limes, oranges, and citrus hops make themselves evident. Can't wait to try.

T: All of wonderful things that the smell promised are certainly delivered in the taste. Extremely citrusy and hoppy flavors comoe through which prove to be much stronger and flavorful compared to many other IPAs and DIPAs out there.

M: Perfect for this style of beer. Medium amount of carbonation that goes down very smooth. It has just the right amount of creaminess to it without being too thick.

O: One of the best beers I've had of this style, hands down.

Poured from undated bomber to pint glass the beer arrives a light translucent amber yellow with a nice 2 finger white head, supreme retention, excellent lacing. The nose is very hop forward with citrus and fruity tones: mango, grapefruit, tangerine, tropical fruit. Hints of pine as well. Fruity sweetness. The flavor starts with a gentle pale malt sweetness from which the hop character and flavors build. The same fruitiness as found in the nose together with a medium bitterness. No hint of alcohol and very well balanced. Finishes clean and crisp with a lingering bitter fruity sweetness. Very good. Medium to Full bodied with good carbonation. Overall, this is a fantastic beer. Tons of fruity character and very approachable. Highly recommended.

22 oz bomber into a Three Floyds pint glass.

A - Dark amber body. Soapy one finger off-white head. Tight bubbling with low retention.

S - Super juicy grapefruit with some tropical fruit. A touch of pine, caramel malts and an earthy, almost grainy metallic finish.

T - Grapefruit juice. Lots of pineapple and peach with hints of malt. Super fresh, floral, and sour. Lightly bitter finish lingers for a bit. Medium body mouth feel with adequate carbonation.

O - A grapefruit lovers beer. I've never had a D/IPA come off so strong with grapefruit. Really delicious stuff, though I found the nose to be a bit metallic.
