650 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Very hazy orange yellow. Not much of a head. Slight white collar.

Smell - Bananas and clove. Grainy. Phenolic. Standard hefe aroma.

Taste - Just like the aroma, lots of banana and clove. Spicy more than bananas. Grainy right up front, but gets a little more slick and phenolic in the finish. Lots of banana in the back. Some vanilla, maybe?

Mouthfeel - Starts off thin, but feels thicker into the drink. Well carbonated. Slightly metallic in the finish.

Overall - I'm not a hefe drinker, but this is decent.

A: Poured a cloudy yellowish-orange color with a nice bgright glare. The head was a big and rocky one at first, nice white pillow that seemed to just die in about five seconds leaving a few bubbles. With the amount of wheat in this beer the retention should have been bettr and a head retention is a staple of the style guidelines

S: A big whiff reveals much of what I was exopecting-wheat, wheat and more wheat with a nice ripe banana note and a dash of vanilla

T: Initial wheat upfront with a rush of ripe banans to follow. The vanilla provides a little sweetness which I don't actually like in this beer and is a little much for the style. Traditionally, a moderate vanilla is acceptable on the nose but not so much in flavor. The finish is a bit heavy to me, sticky evem sweet and really not that refreshing

M: Medium bodied, a bit undercarbonated I felt, really not crisp but somewhat creamy and silky on texture

O: Not a bad weiss or hefe but not something I would recommend or routinely go back to.

In the glass this beer appears a clear honey amber color with a small head that quickly disappears.
I note the scent of slightly spiced citrus. As the beer warms I detect a hint of banana.
Taste is wheat with a trace of yeast. Alcohol front with a slightly bitter aftertaste.
Medium light bodied brew. With the rapid dissapation of the head I am suprised by the carbonation feel on my tongue.

I can see myself drinking this one again. I will definitly drink this again.

Shared with the wife while bellied up to the bar at the Three Floyd's brewpub. Hadn't even heard of this one until we walked in the door.

Light & swirly like a hefe should be. The smell is the brew's strongest point, like sticking two nostrils into a blender of bananas. Too far. You know, so you end up with banana up your nose. Like that.

Drunk Monk is dominated by the banana taste, along with sweet candy. The wheat of the weizen if far behind these two & more of an afterthought. Not a traditional hefe, but good. The definition of crisp & refreshing.

Very good brew. Above average hefe but short of playing with the big boys.

First and foremost...I am not a huge Hefe fan so I probably wont rate this as high as others. The beer was poured carefully as to avoid the sediment that amassed at the bottom of the bottle. The beer was a golden clear with no head and no lace. The scent was typical of most....probably leaned more towards clove than banana. The taste had decent spiciness to it and the clove and banana balanced fairly well. The mouthfeel was medium in body with good carbonation. Overall it was good....and certainly worth a try.

Bottle pour at Woodshop 8 held at The Hermosillo in Los Angeles, CA.

Pours a hazy orange with a foamy bone head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace slowly drip into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is of malt, wheat, yeast, spice, and banana aromas. Taste is much the same with wheat, caramel, and banana flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that iis tasty and is s a solid American take on the style.

Appearance: Pours with a creamy thick head at about two fingers and subsided to half a finger while drinking. Average carbonation active in glass for a hefe. Murky dark orange brown color. Lacing crept down the glass with each drink.

Smell: Cloves, leafy greens, and prairie grass definitely pop right out of the glass. Buttery yeast body with some exotic spices. This aroma is very bright and potent. Smells very good but seems to lack elite depth.

Taste: Bananas and a medium bodied wheat presence. Straw and the prairie grass burst though here as well. Fruity tones of oranges, mangos, and kiwis dance around on the palate. Very tasty but again seems to lack a little bit in depth.

Mouthfeel: Low carbonation felt on the palate. Creamy and rich.

Overall: A nice American hefe but like I said in my review, could use a little more depth overall. Lingering tastes are very pleasant and the mouthfeel is light and refreshing.
