Notes & Commercial Description:
Beer added by: BeerAdvocate on 03-19-2006

This beer is brewed during the hop harvest with a portion of unkilned or “wet” hops fresh off the vine. Apricot in color, Broo Doo’s nose has dominant orange, pine sap and floral notes, balanced by a glazed nut and toffee malt body. This celebration of the hop harvest has intense tropical fruit, citrus and spicy accents that showcase the complexity of the hops we all love.

Bomber poured into a snifter

A – hazy orange, pours with a 2 finger head, falls to about a 0.5-1 finger head retention. Minor amount of lacing on side of glass. After sitting for a bit, the head retention fades to a thin film.

S – Could smell the hops from a foot away while pouring it! Very floral and citrusy…reminds me of a less extreme Stone Enjoy By. Definitely get some orange citrus fruit smells coming off of it. I really like this smell…reminds me of a nice double IPA.

T – My first impression is that it is very tasty but a little disappointing. After recently finishing a case of zombie dust, the hops almost fall flat here. For any other brewery, this would be a really good drink. For a FFF bomber, I’m a tad disappointed. It tastes like a slightly cut back version of the aroma: piney and citrusy. It finishes off with a nice, sweet malt taste. Tastes almost spicy at first, then fades to the citrus-piney hops, then fades to the delicate amount of sweet malts (with the hops still lingering there in the background). There’s a decent amount of bitter aftertaste that lingers nicely. Every sip I've taken gets a little better. More sips yield a nice complexity that this beer possesses. The malt and hop profiles combine very nicely with this one.

M – It feels very smooth and almost slick. Perhaps it is oily from the portion of wet hops thrown in? Each sip invites you to take another one (and another one). A perfect amount of carbonation…any more I think would interfere with the flavors.

O – Would drink again…probably will buy another bottle if the store I buy from hasn't ran out of their case yet. FFF never disappoints. I would love to try this as fresh as possible...wish FFF gave out bottled-on dates. (1,754 characters)

A: Creamy 2 finger head. Very hazy medium dark amber. Some spotty lacing. Head dissipates to a fine dusting.

S: Sweet candy, very bright and lively floral hops with citrus. This hop smell reminds me that hops and marijuana are close relatives.

T: I have to tell you that this is a trip for a porter/stout guy. It's a big hop taste that feels green, fresh and lively. I thought it would overwhelm me but it didn't. It has that IPA quality which is a sort of revitalizing and zingy. The floral and citrus bitter aftertaste is really intense.

M: Medium/light body. Clean and crisp.

D: Hop lovers should check this out. For such an aggressive brew, it is amazingly drinkable. I am not a huge fan of IPA's but I thoroughly enjoyed this drink and it gives me another reason to try the other 3F's offerings. (804 characters)

22oz bottle picked up at the brewery for $7. Pours into my glass a clear copper orange hue with a half inch of bubbly, sticky white head on top of the brew. Harvest colors for a harvest ale! Aromas blast out of the glass with huge tropical, citric dank hop resins. It literally smells like rubbing a hop cone between your fingers. Wow, it's hard to stop smelling this one. Some slightly sweet caramel in the background, but this is all about the hops.

First sip brings a caramel, lightly toasted grain malt quickly run over by a rush of hops. Citrus and tropical fruit flavors along with green oily hop resins. There's a big bitterness but it never becomes too much. Sorta spicy. A hop lover's dream, this is one tasty brew.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied, smooth and creamy. Perfect carbonation, this brew is incredibly easy to drink and a bomber goes down without the blink of an eye. Another triumph in hoppy goodness from Three Floyds, this time in a lower abv beer. Pick this one up at all costs and drink it fresh. My favorite wet hopped harvest ale I've sampled this year. I need more. (1,090 characters)

Bomber pours a clear amber orange body with a healthy offwhite head that has some staying power. Lots of clingy patch lace left behind on the glass.

Aroma is fresh and leafy hops. Lots of pine and grassiness here with hints of citrus and toasted caramel.

Mouthfeel is light medium to medium in body with a pleasant carbonation that enlivens. There is an herbal feel on the palate.

Taste opens with citrusy orange hops, quickly seguing into grapefruit rind and pine cone hop bitterness. Caramel malt toastiness is present throughout but never intrudes.

Very endearing and highly drinkable. An excellent harvest ale whose drinkability is limited only by price and availability. (679 characters)

From memory while on our beercation.
Served in a pint glass with two fingers worth of thick and creamy white head, slightly hazy golden body. Good retention and lacing.

Smells amazing, citrus and floral hops with some piney notes mixed in. Carmel sweetness shows through as it warms up.

Tastes like orange juice mixed with piney hops. Wow! Very oily and dank. Some sweet malts are present but not enough to keep it balanced, it is an IPA after all made by FFF, yum.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. A very sticky, oily, piney resinous finish.

Overall I enjoyed this one quite. Very complex and flavorful.
