I love the Broo Doo -- don't get me wrong -- but it is a one note; light malt specifically brewed to get out of the way of the fresh hops. So even off the tap, the head disappears leaving greasy hops residue down the glass with thick lace etched onto the glass. Smell is tropical fruit esters, strong pine and sharp cutting grapefruit. Grass and tea finish the aroma. Okay, I let the second pint sit a while before quaffing and the head took 20 minutes to collapse which is pretty damned amazing under the weight of all that hops oil.
Taste bites and then burns. Bright, shiny quick sweetness in the maple to biscuit range followed quickly--and all hint of sweetness obliterated--by a big hop whollop (apologies to victory here) that is just so wonderfully fresh-hopped and so my mountain wet hop adventure begun in Idaho in October merges into November in the midwest.
I drank two pints just to be sure I had the review down, so this is highly drinkable, almost but not quite sessionable at 7%.
Broodoo on tap was well worth the wait -- I was starting to think it was bait and switch at Black Sparrow. Thanks, Sparrows, for keeping the great, interesting beers rotating in and out.
Serving type: on-tap
