Pours a light copper that's slightly murky. 1.5 finger white head that recedes quickly. Decent lacing.
The smell screams fresh hops. Grassy and piney. Lots of citrus...lemons grapefruit and orange. Malt sweetness in the background.
With all of the hops in the aroma, I was expecting a pretty big bitter punch, but instead, the taste is initially sweet and finishes bitter. Other than that, the taste goes along with the smell. The citrus in the taste comes off as more orangey and the malt backbone provides a hint of caramel.
As I'm drinking it, I'm starting to like the sweetness and the unobtrusive bitterness.
I'd like to do a tasting of fresh hop vs. not beers and see what exactly is the difference.
The mouthfeel is nicely balanced, medium carbonation. Leaves a nice resiny stain in the mouth.
This is a very flavorful beer. Even though the ABV is pretty low, I don't know if I could drink it all night. It may be a tad too sweet.
Overall a very excellent beer even if it wasn't exactly what I expected for the style at 5.5%.
