Notes & Commercial Description:
Beer added by: BeerAdvocate on 03-19-2006

This beer is brewed during the hop harvest with a portion of unkilned or “wet” hops fresh off the vine. Apricot in color, Broo Doo’s nose has dominant orange, pine sap and floral notes, balanced by a glazed nut and toffee malt body. This celebration of the hop harvest has intense tropical fruit, citrus and spicy accents that showcase the complexity of the hops we all love.

I'm glad I traded for so many Three Floyds beers. This is the second one I've tried and just like the first (Amber Smashed Face) is excellent. Just a touch hoppy, but mostly fruity with pine and some sweet malt thrown into the mix

22 oz. bottle, bottled on date 09/23/2015 smearing away at the bottleneck. "Harvest Ale" No abv listed on the bottle. Typical Three Floyds. 7.00% abv according to BeerAdvocate.

Poured into a Duvel tulip glass.

A - Pours a golden honey orange body, semi-translucent with lots of tiny sedimentation visible in the glass. About a finger of frothy, quickly fading off-white head. Some good strands of lacing.

S - A pleasant aroma - floral, fruity, yet slightly subdued. Not terribly piney or resinous. What strikes me most is the sweetened honey malts.

T - A delicious fruity flavor. Sweet juicy apricots & peaches galore, with a deliciously sweet honeyed malt backbone. If I didn't know better, I'd think this was brewed with honey. Very fruity & juicy, but not bitter, dank, or resinous. Very delicious stuff.

M - Feel is smooth, crisp, & clean. Floral & juicy. Lightly sticky finish. Medium-bodied with excellent carb. No detectable alcohol presence.

Overall, very crisp, fresh, fruity, balanced, & delicious. An excellent seasonal IPA from Three Floyds. Very recommended.

This is great. Bright tropical fruits abound, with enough malt sweetness to balance out the higher ibus to make something pretty damn special. Bitter enough not to be weak, and assertive yet balanced enough not to be overbearing. Spot on.

22oz bottle dated 9/23/15 poured into a pint glass
A: Orange color with a solid one-finger head
S: Plenty of fresh hop notes - citrus, stone fruit, tropical fruit with malt underneath
T: Also quite fresh with citrus but more resin than the other fruits seen in the nose. Adds a bit of earth while keeping that malt backbone
M: Medium-bodied, bitter/a bit oily
O: Tasty, screams fall & fresh

Pours a burnt orange with big pillowy white head. Great lacing throughout. Smell is a bit of a let down. Instead of fresh hops I get a mellow candy and light sweeter aroma. Taste follows suit with the nose as this is a much heavier malted ipa than expected. Slight piney notes with a sweeter malt backing, medium bitter residual. Although nicely balanced, it's not what I have come to expect out of a wet hopped harvest ales from the midwest (Surly Wet, Bell's Harvest, Founder's Harvest, Pig Mind's Freeport Fresh, Half Acre Sticky Fat, exc. ). I sound like a spoiled brat I'm sure, but I expect more from FFF. A good beer that is worth seeking out, just don't expect world class.

Pours a tgolden copper with a thin white head. Great lacing. A nice citrus hop smell. A nice citrus hop taste up front. The malt creates a nice balance with a little funk in the dry finish. A nice resonating of pine working up the nose upon finish.

This is such an awesome beer. One of the reasons I look forward to the fall beer season so much. A nice hazy orange pour as all wet hopped ales should be, with a big fluffy head, and great lacing. There isn't a lot on the nose of this beer, but that is its only downside. The flavor is a fruity, bitter smack in the mouth. There is almost a candy like flavor in the malt sweetness, but the fresh fruit, mixed with the piney resinous hop esters take full command on the flavor profile. I could easily drink several of these in a sitting. And I certainly intend to consume several more before the season is out. Cheers!

Poured into an IPA glass from a 22 oz bomber from the generous snaotheus.

Color is a slightly hazy gold with a large frothy white head. Aroma is oranges and tropical fruits - very juicy. Flavor is green and bright hops and tropical fruits. Finish is moderately bitter and lingering. Body is medium with moderate carbonation - resiny and oily mouth coating. Overall, a very tasty IPA that captures the essence of hops.

Traditional, orange-yellow color with a slight chill haze, and a bubbly, slightly fluffy and persistent white head that leaves a very resilient lacing. Smell is more subdued than expected, but redolent of citrus, tropical fruit, honey, and a hint of pepper and pine. The first sip brings a big hit of fruit flavors, led by a big hit of apricots, then orange juice and rind, grapefruit, kumquats, mangoes, starfruit, passionfruit, and hints of white, black, and even red pepper. Malts provide good support, with a fairly dry, crackery base and a hint of honeyed sweetness. Finish is fairly dry, with persistent citrus-rind bitterness, peppery notes, and a whiff of alcohol. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied, with fairly crisp carbonation that keeps the beer refreshing and drinkable. Another very good offering from Three Floyds.

Bomber. Pours hazy orange amber, thick foamy head slowly recedes, coating lace. Smells like candy, caramel and orange. Taste is mald forward, light sweetness meets clean grassy and pine notes, floral hops as well. Lots of flavor in this one. Very dry finish with lingering pine and flowers. Medium mouthfeel. Very good fresh hop IPA.

Found this gem at a local liquor store, pours a cloudy gold. Smells sweet and fruity. Accents of fruit on the palate and bitter but doesn't seem 80 Ibu bitter. Finishes smooth. I love this beer, plan on putting a bottle away for later.

22oz bottle brought back from Chicago by my dear wife. 1348-1351 9-24-2015 is the code on the side of the bottle.

Pours mostly clear golden with a big pretty head that fades slowly and clings thickly to the sides of the glass. Medium-high carbonation. Pretty beer. Smell is tasty -- flowers and tropical fruit.

Taste is hay, grass, flowers, moderate tropical fruit, and a slow, pleasingly dry bitter finish.

Mouthfeel is very dry. Very resinous. Overall, very tasty beer.

Poured brownish/orange gold. Strong foam. Not much on the smell. Hops are way up front, accompanied by citrus. Stronger bitterness takes away some of the freshness of the hops. Refreshing and crisp, but slightly less freshness than what I want from the style.

Pours a hazy light amber with an ample, creamy and tightly-bubbled white head.
Aroma is hop city. Grass, citrus, sweet orange, pine, vinous and dank.
The dank hits my tongue first followed a bit of citrus and a middle piney and bitter, a bit of sweetness and then an almost-walnut like astringency to finish the sip.
Mouthfeel is medium and a touch sticky.
Quite tasty.

BOTTLE: 1 pint 6 fl oz. Brown glass. Colourful label art. Branded pink & green pry-off crown cap.

Purchased at 3 Floyds a few days ago. Served cold into a pilsner glass. Expectations are high given the wet hopping and 3 Floyds' high reputation.

No bubble show forms as it's poured.

HEAD: One finger wide. White colour. Nice frothiness and creaminess. Good overall even consistency. Decent complexion. Retention is nie - about 4-5 minutes. Leaves no lacing as it recedes.

BODY: Cloudy copper of nice vibrance. No yeast is visible within. Translucent but nontransparent.

It's a nice look for an IPA, but isn't groundbreaking. I'm looking forward to trying it.

AROMA: Dank hop presence: pine, resins, hop oils, floral notes, orange peel, melon, tangerine, and spicy hops. Caramalt, pale malts, and 3 Floyds' usual syrupy cotton candy sweetness.

The hoppy notes aren't as vivid or expressive as you'd hope for in a wet hop IPA, but there's plenty of diversity to the hop profile. This aroma, while of below average intensity, suggests a nicely complex IPA with plenty of flavour.

I find no overt yeast notes, off-notes, or booze.

TASTE: Hop bitterness is well balanced by the caramalt, pale malt, and syrupy candied sweetness in the malt backbone. Hop notes are diverse, with floral character, piney notes, resins, mild oils, tangerine, melon, rind, and spice.

It's balanced, yes, but it honestly isn't that hoppy to begin with. The hop notes - whilst impressively diverse - aren't as vivid, fresh, expressive, or deep as you'd expect in a world-class wet hop ale. There isn't much here for the discerning drinker in terms of subtlety and nuance, but I do like it, and it's well built for what it is. It's just not the hop bomb 3 Floyds would have us believe.

TEXTURE: Smooth, wet, lightly oily, somewhat refreshing, medium-bodied, and aptly thick and hefty on the palate, with a good overall presence and presentation of flavour. Clean and well-carbonated. Doesn't accentuate specific notes or elevate the beer as a whole, but it complements the taste decently.

OVERALL: Drinkable and enjoyable, but not world-class. I'd buy it again if it were offered in 6-packs, but at this price point in bomber format - no thanks. Well worth trying, and enjoyable as an IPA, but further intricacy - and frankly, hop presence - is needed to elevate this into a style paragon.

Bomber into a New Belgium snifter. Vibrant gold in color on the pour, and settles a deep golden in the glass. Quite clear and topped with 1 finger of creamy, eggshell foam. Decent retention. Very nice floral aroma with lots of juicy, tropical fruit. Lots of sweet malt in the aroma as well. Medium weight and very smooth. There's a great balance between the hops and fruit in this beer - just about perfect. Loads of tropical fruit and sweet malt but still quite hoppy in typical 3F fashion. More hops on the back end and aftertaste than up front. Smooth finish.

Overall, very enjoyable. I've yet to have a Floyds IPA that disappointed and this one's no exception. Perfect abv to sit and enjoy a bomber by yourself. It'd be the ideal weekend beer if they bottled it in 12 oz. bottles and sold 'em in 6 packs.

Awesome FFF IPA, but I wouldn't necessarily know it was wet hopped. Reminds me a bit of their other hoppy offerings, which is a good thing. Glad I got to try it.

FFF Wet Hopped Brew? Sign me up.

Poured into a tulip and was met by a orange/golden shine like the inside of Marcellus Wallace's briefcase. Bubbly head stuck around for a minute. Smells like citrus, hops, hops, hops, light earthy scent, almost floral even. Taste is spectacular. Citrus & tropical fruits, pine, sweet, spiced, hops, but doesn't hit you like you think 80 IBU would.

Great juicy hop taste and plenty of bitterness on the back end to reinforce it--not too sweet like a lot of midwestern DIPAs with this great of a hop profile (IMHO). Great hop showcase. Beautiful honey color. Nice juicy, grassy aroma. The best fresh hop beer I've had recently. Would buy again despite ridiculous bomber pricing.

Look = 4.25 Pours a foggy golden apricot color with 3 fingers of crisp, white head with great retention and lace.
Aroma = 4.0 Hoppy citrus orange notes, light pine and floral notes too. A little sweetness comes through, but overall the aroma is a little weak.
Taste = 4.25 Hoppy citrus and light pine flavors lead the way but there is nice balance with a nice, sweet toffee and bready backbone.
Feel = 4.25 Light and crisp all around, medium bodied with medium carbonation, light syrup feel and a hint of resin character.
Drinkability = 4.25 Terrifically drinkable IPA.
Overall = 4.1875 Well balanced but hoppy harvest ale here. Solid all around.

Bottled September 23, 2015 enjoyed October 6, 2015 in a MadTree tulip/snifter.

Look - Orange body. Any haze mellows with warmth. Nice head with fine bubbles. Nice lacing.

Smell - Earth. Rye. Grass. Citrus. Pine. Sweet.

Taste - Rye and grass. Pine. Bitter finish. Fruits like mango and tangerine.

Feel - Chewy and heavier than expected. Head is explosive but not overly carbonated. Dries up. Little spice burn.

Overall - So many times I say "I will try something different today" and end up pulling a new 3 Floyds and it always turns out to be an IPA. I was thinking Saison/Farmhouse but I'll take this too. Good.

Poured from a bomber into a tulip. Pale gold, slight haze, wicked head with very fine bubbles. Fairly thick halo hangs around. Lacing looks like a humpback whale cresting. Orange and pine on the nose. The hop flavor is warm enveloping. Taste has a nice bitter backend.

Kept trying to figure out how this tastes like a wet hop IPA, then what a wet hop IPA is supposed to taste like. Don't care. Great beer.
