Notes/Commercial Description:
This beer is brewed during the hop harvest with a portion of unkilned or “wet” hops fresh off the vine. Apricot in color, Broo Doo’s nose has dominant orange, pine sap and floral notes, balanced by a glazed nut and toffee malt body. This celebration of the hop harvest has intense tropical fruit, citrus and spicy accents that showcase the complexity of the hops we all love.

Thanks, Todd! This is apparently an October release, delivered to me 3 months later. Joy! Poured out of a 22oz bottle into a tulip glass.

This is not apricot in color - rather, it's golden amber, with a fluffy white head that rises decently to the top of the glass and dissipates after about 15 minutes later into a modest ring. Bubbles do show in a relatively effervescent manner, but they too die down. Slightly cloudy, with a good deal of sediment. Usually FFF delivers in terms of appearance - not so much here.

Smells extremely mild, which is especially strange given that this is a wet hop beer. Big notes of honey coated with lemon rinds, light grapefruit, and pine. Some pepper and indistinguishable floral notes. Yes, it's a bit old at this point, but this honestly should have held up better after about 90 days, especially for a wet hop beer. There's a brief green bell pepper vegetal notes underneath, as well as some earthiness and toffee, but otherwise honey is ridiculously predominant here. Could be better.

The flavor continues the trend set from the aroma, providing a bomb of honey, toffee, and faded citrus varieties. Grapefruit, pine, lemon rinds, and maybe some apricot, but otherwise this seems to be a shell of what it once was or could be. There's an acrid earthiness that melds with the honey to slightly disconcerting results, as well as a brief peppercorn/bell pepper finish that is slightly unique but fizzles out with the extra honey topping the entire process. Finishes with toffee as well as a slight buttery flavor, but miraculously crisp and clean at the finish. Not difficult to drink, and the alcohol and carbonation is just right, but it's really underwhelming overall.

Man, FFF is really hit or miss with their seasonal releases, it seems. I've had Dreadnaught 2-3 months old and it was drinking fine. This probably started to turn about 1-2 months in, and I KNOW that FFF is better of making a beer that holds up better than this. At the same time, something tells me that, just like most wet hop beers, this should have been a tap only release and the bottling was somewhat volatile in maintaining its freshness. Approach with caution, especially if you're aware of when it was bottled.

Look - golden orangish color with good lacing and a good head that went away quick.
Smell - has a sweet slight fruity smell and a marijuana smell followed by a good malt smell.
Taste - tangy marijuana tropical fruit taste.
Feel - creamy medium body with a light carbonation
Overall - fantastic very different ipa

Poured from bomber into pint glass.

Pours a hazy dark golden color with a luscious two fingers of head that produces great lacing. Smells of hops and grass, but it is a bit muted. This is a great example of a wet hopped beer. It is a bit citrusy which is nice. This has a nice mouthfeel with a smooth after taste with just a hint of bitterness.

Overall this is a really nice beer. It does not quite measure up to Founder's Harvest Ale, but a delightful wet hopped ale absolutely worth picking up.
