Notes & Commercial Description:
Beer added by: BeerAdvocate on 03-19-2006

This beer is brewed during the hop harvest with a portion of unkilned or “wet” hops fresh off the vine. Apricot in color, Broo Doo’s nose has dominant orange, pine sap and floral notes, balanced by a glazed nut and toffee malt body. This celebration of the hop harvest has intense tropical fruit, citrus and spicy accents that showcase the complexity of the hops we all love.

Appearance: Amber/light mahogany body with an ivory/light citrine head.

Aroma: Earth, pine, honeydew, pear - all with a somewhat sweet resolve.

Taste: Strong malt and hop profile. Hops are crisp and earthy, yet extremely smooth.

Mouthfeel: Moderately light and crisp with a smooth finish; piney aftertaste.

Overall: The first time I tried 'Broo Doo', I was not impressed; I found it dreadful and had to drain-pour it. That was a little over two years ago, when I was just introduced to craft beer. After having it two weeks ago with a greater understanding and appreciation for craft beer, along with a far more experienced palate, I can say that I was wrong to dismiss this one and relegate it to my 'shit list'. Try this and enjoy - you will not be disappointed.

I was a little dissapointed by this one, but expectations were high based on its BA rating. I could not find a "drink by" date, but since it is a wet hop ale I assume it is old, the label was peeling in the liquor store. Pours a bit light for an ipa, straw and light orange colored. Head is about three fingers with good retention. The smell is hops, citrus and honey. Taste is Hops, bread, yeast slight citrus and honey. Relatively low bitterness for an IPA (Is this really 80 IBU's?!) but the hops are well balanced. The mouthfeel is lacking in my opinion, despite a decent head the carbonation is actually pretty flat in my opinion. Overall it really is a good beer and I will definitely give it another try this fall during the harvest.

ThreeFloyds Broodoo This 7% American #IPA pours an Apricot Amber Opaque Orange color~ Aroma is a piney citrus heaven with a touch of cotton candy, soap and tropical flavors on the tip, almost as if they brewed it for aroma alone~ moderate body, great carbonation, a touch sticky and fairly creamy~ Wow, I haven't got to taste yet.... Such a JUICY citrus dank wet hop burst! Refreshing and satisfying, taste is everything in the aroma plus... Lemon, Grapefruit, Earthiness, honey, banana and a bit of caramel/toffee~ Every sip I take is like a juicy citrus bomb! What a delight~ My only knock is an unfair one, Im biased against IPA's because I feel as though they are soapy, bitter and taste like cat pee smells~ That said, this is delicious and Juicy! Overall: 9.4
