Served in a pint glass.

APPEARANCE

This brew has the Oktoberfest look - caramel/rust colored and very translucent. There's just a little bit of bubbles coming up, collecting at a eggshell colored head. The head was about two fingers when first poured but disappated quickly to a sliver.

SMELL

Once again, very characteristic of an Oktoberfest. Tons of malt in the nose, along with a fair amount of banana and that crisp lager smell. There's some dark fruit character, such as plums or raisins. There's even a bit of clove in there too, sort of like other traditional German lagers. This is an excellent example of the style in the nose.

TASTE

After smelling this beer, the taste falls a bit short. Not that it is bad, but it's a little underwhelming. There is a lovely maltiness in this, which is to be expected. The banana is subtle, but still present. There's a good bit of caramel as well. That crisp lager taste doesn't appear to dominate this beer, and it drinks more like an ale. Overall, though, it tastes kind of watered down.

MOUTHFEEL

This has quite a bit of sweet body, but is in no way hard to drink. Like I said, it tastes watered down, but there is a decent amount of sweetness left. The carbonation is very minimal, which adds to the perceived body.

OVERALL

This is not my favorite example of the style. However, it is pretty tasty and is a very well-made beer. But overall, it's underwhelming and average at best. I love Three Floyds, but this one just doesn't rock my world. It was made under Bavarian Purity Law, which is slightly charming, but it doesn't make this beer any more interesting.

Cheers.

22oz bottle pours into my glass a clear deep orange/red harvest color with a nice half inch of creamy eggshell head and lots of active carbonation rising up. Aromas of deep caramel and a touch of nuttiness. A bit roasted, with an herbal, lightly spicy hop in the background. Pretty nice.

First sip brings a sturdy caramel malt upfront along with a nice roasted nutty aspect to it as well. Flows down with some herbal, floral, spicy hops. A touch grassy with a bit of fruity flavor on the finish. Light bitterness is present. A tasty, malty oktoberfest lager.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and smooth with ample carbonation. Goes down easy with a nice dry crispness on the finish. Quite an easy drinking oktoberfest. It doesn't really set itself apart from others in the style very much, but overall is a tasty, enjoyable oktoberfest that lives up to the style. As one of the Floyd's few bottled lagers, it's one I'd probably come back to again.

A - Pours a clear light copper color with a small amount of tan head. Head dissipates quickly, and doesn't leave much lacing.

S -- Nice toasted malt, a bit of caramel and hints of banana.

T -- Similar to smell there is a nice amount of toasted malt with a bit of sweetness. The sweetness doesn't get too intense though. Again some mild banana notes.

M -- Medium mouthfeel with a slightly sweet finish.

O -- An enjoyable Oktoberfest, but not one of the top. Still, I would have this again.

This may have been an older bottle, but there is no date markings available that I can find.

Pours a cloudy amber with a two finger off white head. Decent retention and lacing. Aroma is roasty carmel malts. Taste is dissapointing, very malty with a little too much sweetness and not enough hops. Mouthfeel is average. Pretty drinkable but not something I would want to drink a lot of. I am hoping this was just an old bottle; I will get some fresh as soon as it's available.

Bomber pours a mostly clear, radiant orange body with a small and fleeting beige head. Sticky fleck lacing on the glass. Aroma of toasted grain, caramel, and spicy/herbal hops. Light medium body, good carbonation, and a slightly creamy mouthfeel. Taste is well balanced, with a toasty, nutty, and caramel maltiness that is complimented by a subtle spicy hop bitterness. Very well constructed lager that rivals some of the better German examples of the style.

A special thanks goes to goodbyeohio for snagging me this one...
Clear auburn with a half finger of off-white head...thin lacing.
One of the better aromas from the style...huge malt presence with floral notes, citrus, and a minty spice with a lingering nose.
Taste is fantastic...toasted, carmelized malt up front with a huge dose of bittering hops, more floral but some citrus in there too. The yeast flavors really add to the balance.
Finishes slightly sweet, but more bitter and dry, making the mouthfeel medium-bodied and very clean.
Not sure of the abv, but I'm guessing below 6% and very easy to consume....the bomber disappears way too quickly.
A great brew in the style from one of the best.

Thanks to thirdeye11 for sharing this bottle.

The beer pours a light orange color with a white head. The aroma is a mix of toffee and bready malts. The flavor is more complex with bread, caramel, toffee and grapes mixing together. Low bitterness from the hops. The beer tastes very clean. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Dimpled Mug.

Appearance: Slightly hazy reddish-amber with thin head.

Smell: Cherry, spicy noble hops and some light caramel and biscuit.

Taste: Fairly sweet caramel, cherry and biscuit. Slightly spicy hops on the finish with some lingering cherry and biscuit.

Feel: Moderate carbonation, medium lager body, slightly dry finish.

Overall: Pretty standard Marzen, and even a little on the sweet side. Expected more from Three Floyds, but nevertheless very well done.

A - copper color with hints of gold and orange. Definitely a bit hazy. Pour led to a slight head that quickly dissipated.

S - caramel malts with pronounced notes of lemon and orange. Fragrant nose that is neither strong nor weak

T - slightly sweet with maltiness really owning the flavor profile. Has the same hints of citrus that was in the nose and there is slight toffiness that comes on the end.

MF - slight stickiness to it with a medium body and some carbonation on the back end that gives it slightly more heft.

O - overall a good easy drinking offering from FFF. This one was good and pretty true to the style without too many of the normal FFF curve balls. I would definitely buy a couple for the fall season.

(Served in a dimple mug)

A- This beer has a thick but soapy head that sits on a orangish-deep copper body that is crystal clear. There are tiny strands of bubbles leading up to the surface from the base of the mug. The head last for a good long time.

S- This beer has a light caramel malt note with a hint of sweetness and a toasted malt smell that has a hint of dry fresh grain note to it. Even though the smell is soft the slight sweetness and dryness is very nice.

T- The taste of toasted malt has a faint pot caramel note but it is a good pot caramel note. There is a faint biscuit or dry light toasted note in the malt aswell. The floral hop finish really balances the malt flavors perfectly. The bitter hops flavor doesn't last long in the finish.

M- This beer has a medium-full body with a tight fizz finish that is a bit crisp.

D- This beer has good malt depth with a very nice balance of malt and hops. I think this is the first Oktoberfest beer that I could drink by the liter and not get tired of drinking. Of course, I have never been to O-fest in German. With the soft malt and hops I will have to find this on cask and I think it must be consumed fresh.

22oz. brown bomber poured into a pint. Quick notes.

A: Deep amber, clear. Short head and no lacing.

S: Roasty malts, a bit buttery. Very grainy. No hop presence.

T/M: Roasty malts with some harvest and pumpkin like tastes? Pretty sweet but very husky and grainy. Body is medium witha nice smoothness. Light body is decent carbonation.

D: Easy to drink but not tasty or interesting enough to want to.

Served in a stein glass at 3 floyds. Pours an almost amber with a good head. The retention is pretty amazing. This is a pretty solid tasting brew. It as an easy drinker but still has some substance. I am not extremely familiar with this style, but it tastes pretty good to me.
