On-tap at Northdown. Served in a snifter.
A - Tan foam settles to a thick collar and splotchy lace. Very dark brown body with faint ruby notes.
S - Woah! Lots of bourbon here, with some mildly spicy dill notes from the oak. The mixture of intense barrel and raspberry acidity gives this a mild acetone note, and the base Scottish ale is but a distant memory. Did I mentioned the bourbon?
T - The taste is a tad better, with a nice mix of wood, toasted grains, and earthy bourbon, and perhaps a touch of raspberry puree in the finish. The harsh barrel flavors and mild nail polish are thankfully gone.
M - Medium body, that is a tad thin for the listed 9.5% but unsurprising considering the base beer. Lower carbonation, super dry and tannic, but thankfully not overly hot.
D - Considering the intense bourbon flavor it was surprisingly easy to put down the 12oz glass. That being said, I wasn't overly interested in having another glass. One of 3 Floyds' less compelling barrel-aged experiments.
