This is one mean pale ale. Perhaps the most flavorful pale ale I've tasted yet. Poured out a copper color with a nice head that lasted for a while. Smell hops and citrus. At time though it smelled like buttered popcorn. Strange. Taste was all there though. Grapefruit goes all over the palate and lasts into the aftertaste. But then more hops and malts attack in the middle and also lasts into thre end. But this is balanced alright. Next time I put in a order I have to order a 6 pack of this stuff. Damn this is tasty. But only if it wasn't for that strange aroma.

Picked up at Dirty John's in Iowa City. Not available in Wichita.

Appearance. Poured a dark amber, slightly burnished copper color. An average height head caused by a relatively rough pour. It was thick and dense and left plenty of lace in its wake.

Smell: Citrus and pine hops assaulted the nose first, but was balanced well with a backbone of roasted malt. For the amount of hops present, the aroma was warm and well rounded.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied and smooth.

Taste: The citrus and pine hops of the aroma carried on into the flavor. They were nice and clean tasting. Wonderful balance was provided by a strong malt presence. Malt was a combination of sweet and roasted. The bitterness was very apparent, but I found it to be relatively low compared to the amount of hop flavor that this beer had.

This was a great beer. Very hoppy but very well balanced. I wish that it was available locally.

12oz brown bottle

Alpha King Pale Ale was an orange-amber in color with a nice off-white head. The head had good retention and left quite a bit lacing behind. The aroma was all about the hops, fresh and fruity citrus hops just begging to be tasted. The taste was also very hoppy and delicious with a good malt base to keep some balance. The bitterness was not as intense as you would expect with all of the hops. The finish was dry and bitter. It was medium bodied with good carbonation. Drinkability was excellent. It's one of the best pale ales that I've tried and I highly recommend it.

Thanks to XaulZan11 for this extra/want.

Pours a cloudy, deep copper with a 2-finger light head. Medium lacing.

Smell is orange & grapefruit hops. Slightly piney with some caramel malts. The smell is very subtle. Flavor is juicy, sweet oranges, slightly bitter grapefruit, caramel and biscuity malts. Slight taste of butterscotch. Taste is much more apparent than the smell. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied and smooth. Carbonation is a little low but this isn't flat by any means; just right.

This is a very drinkable APA. The flavor and smell aren't in your face, but that's OK for the style.

This beer pours a nice dark amber, with a nice white lace that sticks to the side of the glass. The smell is citrus, hops, and lemons and flavored with a sweetness of honey and the faintest hint of vanilla. The taste is great, it has a nice bitter kick from the hops as well as some great lemon flavor that is brought out by the honey. The mouthfeel on the palate is very clean. Great beer overall glad I was able to get my hands on this beer, I will def go back to it again.

Clear dark bronzy amber with a loose 1/2" off white head.

Mmmm...the nose...fresh cone of the hop in a sweet, syrupy malt glaze. Fruity notes galore, compliments of the generous amount of hops. Brown sugar in there as well.3

Bountiful flavors of fresh hops all right - very vinous. An interesting tea flavor sits boldly behind the hops. Not too much malt presence (unlike the nose). Slightly sweetened iced tea flavor with a nice offsetting bitterness.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a slightly bitter, dry finish.

Drinkability is good. Very versatile and flavorful.

A hearty pale ale no doubt. I've had plenty of IPAs that can't hold their weight against this surly boy. Balsy & bold. What else would you expect from 3Fs?

The head has dissipated leaving behind lacing and a good strong lacing with a slight amount of head, but the lacing is thick...maybe 2mm thick at it's weakest point. Color is dark brown to ruby red.

Smell is overwhelmingly hoppy and slightly fruity. The hops are slightly grassy. It has some lemon and raspberry to it.

The taste is primarily hops, but it also has some fruityness that ranges from lemon to strawberry/ raspberry.

Mouthfeel is excellent, it is carbonated quite well which leaves a foamy smooth feel on the tongue.

This will be a regular drink for me, it's great.
