A- Pours a rather deep golden to amber color. A nice 2 finger frothy head forms, retains, and laces very well. Rather translucent in the glass.

S- All citrus hops and hints of pine notes. Just like SN Pale Ale, except bigger. Not much else here.

T- Starts with a bitter hops bang. Frankly, the flavor isn't as big as in the scent. Lighter malts are barely detectable underneath the hops profile.

M- Somewhat light and very carbonated, but still heavy enough to support the hops flavor profile. Easy to drink.

Overall, a very solid beer. Between this and SN Pale Ale, they are the flagship beers for this style.

Poured into a perfect pint glass

A: amber with a little bit of orange. Head is very slightly off white and two fingers thick. Lacing is very good.

S: nice pine notes with a bit of biscuit sweetness. Floral hops present as well.

T: Nice malt backbone with a smooth hoppy finish. The sweetness is caramel and biscuity with some nice bitterness.

M: Very well balanced, a slight bit a creaminess. Good but not great.

D: Very easy to drink and quite refreshing.

I had this one many times. Its about time I reviewed it.

Appearance- The beer was a deep copper color with the head to match.

Aroma- Thus is the pretty standard fff hoppy aroma. You know who brewed this.

Taste- The hops do not overwhelm, but leave there mark. Notes of cinnamon, apple, and lime come to mind. The sweetness gives a peculiar profile to the hops. The aftertaste is dry with the hops fading.

Mouthfeel- The carbonation is mellow which allows the hops to linger. Nice!

Overalll- Three Floyds makes a lot of great beers. People forget about this one.

Well, this is the top of the echelon for American Pale Ales. Interestingly enough, this could be classified as a IPA and no one would say differant, its 60ibus, which while not a skull crushing IPA is safely in the territory. Its hoppyness is citrus bound and packs a big punch of flavor, retains a somewhat balanced malt side, that puts it in a perfect place overall between the styles, and has a great creamy mouthfeel and neverending drinkability.

A: Pours a beautiful cascading largish head of light tan on an orangy/brown beer. There's a little haze but good active carbonation and ok lacing.

S: Hoppy, duh. A mild grapefruit scent. Not too strong, but good.

T: Pale Malts and hops mostly. A little heavy on the grapefruit up front. But over all a good pale.

M: Flat, unfortunately.

D: Good, better if it was more carbonated.

More from WeeFishHeads...

Poured a surprising amber color (wait! doesn't the bottle say pale?) with no head, and leaving no lacing. The color is rather nice though.

The aroma is slightly grassy, slightly citrusy, but not overbearing. The taste is a very satisfying mixture of bucolic malt flavors, very traditional British tasting. Combined with the nice firmness of the hop flavor, it makes for a great beer. Its a tad high in ABV for a pale, but you don't sense this when drinking. And its very drinkable.

Loved it. An awesome example of the style, although much more IPA-like than I expected.

Bought a single bottle of this from Circle Liquors in Pennington, NJ.

Poured into a standard pint glass, a very nice semi-clear amber with not much head. STRONG hoppy smell, with sinus-clearing pine and citrus.

Flavour is very bitter, but in a good way, and held up by the grapefruit and pine. A bit of soapiness, as well as a nice bitter, peppery aftertaste that is pleasant and not overpowering. Mouthfeel is great -- this is quite a dry beer and doesn't coat unpleasantly at all.

Highly recommended, and I plan to get a bunch of this when I go back.

S: Sweet and fruity, with some sweet hoppy aromas
4.5/5

T: It starts off mild, then hits with a hard hoppy crack. this is odd, and it then quickly goes back to mellow, with minimal hoppy aftertastes
Odd, but intersting
3.75/5

M: offly wattery, but has a ok maltyness
3/5

Overall: I give this one a 3.5/5. It not bad, but it is a weird brew and I felt that it needed more definition.

Three Floyds Alpha King

F=6 ?

Poured into pint glass

A: Dark amber to brown in color as carbination slowly rises to the top of glass

S: Meh . . . nothin' really

T: Ok, again . . . Nothin' exciting. Not bad but rather boring

M: Medium-sized feel. Good bitter finish

O: Was kinda excited to try my first 3F offering but Alpha King is a boring beer. Just not fun to me. Not sure what the hype is about. I won't be back.

Slightly cloudy off-orange in color. Decent tiny tan head that maintains superior retention. Near sugary lines of patching will retain until the sunlight of tomorrow is upon us. The nose is largely citrus hops, a sinus cleansing dose; pine cones and grapefruit, crossing the IPA side here! Bold and big…are the hops, citrus and piney in flavor. To get technical, my seasoned taste buds can quickly pick up on the centennial and cascade hop offerings; warrior hops, hmm. Massive flavor of freshly squeezed grapefruit juice and orange peels. There is a moderate caramel malt backbone, yet it is certainly second fiddle to the three letter h word. Full bodied and loaded with flavor. The best APA on the market, search for it, find it, secure it. World class! A liquid-hops-induced delight!

Extra from brundo4...thanks!

Poured into a Perfect Pint glass. Formed a single finger, eggshell white head that stuck around forever! The slow foam dissipation left behind huge chunks of lacey bubbles. The body is a cloudy amber with orange hues toward the center and yellow-ish edges.

Wow...lots of hops on the nose (citrus, orange and lemon zest). The background has a sweet malt/caramel aroma.

The palate is greeted with a hop blast...citrus as the nose would suggest, but some piney resin also present (especially toward the finish). Some of the caramel malts you smell are also present, but not to the levels I expected.

Light-medium mouth feel, slightly oily with lots of carbonation.

Very drinkable! I would say this is more of an imperial amber (think Nugget Nectar) than an APA. In fact, I rank this right there with NN!!
