Poured from a 22oz bomber into a 20oz imperial pint. Thanks to HeatherAnn for waiting in line with me at DLD to get this, knowing full well that we weren't going to get any Dark Lord.

Listed as 10.4% abv on the bottle.

A: Pours a crystal clear ruby red/dark amber color with some lazy carbonation. Capping this is a light khaki colored one-finger head that's incredibly creamy. Decent retention and a ton of lace left in the glass.

S: Awesome aromas of sweet caramel malt, grapefruit, candied apple, apricot, toasted malt, and hops. Smells (at the same time) sweet, hoppy, and quite boozy.

T: Huge sweet caramel taste that's countered perfectly by a rather raw and brash alcohol heat. Also in the mix are flavors of grassy green hops, caramel apple, brown sugar and butter sauteed pear, black pepper, and a mild undercurrent of pineapple/apricot. Did I mention caramel?

M: Considering the apparent alcohol content, this beer has an amazingly creamy and dense mouthfeel. Alternates between sweet, hot, and spicy. Awesome!

D: What an awesome beer! I wanted to lay down and take a nap as I drained the dregs from my glass. The 10.4% took its' toll on my empty stomach. This beer was an absolute pleasure to drink and can only benefit from a little ageing. I've been waiting patiently for this beer ever since I read about it months ago. Thank god FFF had something to appease the real beer geeks who waited in line for 5+ hours at DLD '08 and got no DarK Lord...

Sept. 2014: 750 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 10.4%. Hazy brown colour, moderate but lasting off-white head. Very nice aroma of fruity and piney American hops, some sweetish malts in the background. The flavour is dangerously drinkable and even refreshing for a beer of this strength, some sweetness but no too much. And of course large amounts of American hops, fruity first, with a massive resinous bitterness in the finish.

9400th review! 22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled in 2008. Pours moderately hazy deep ruby red/orange/copper color with a 1 finger dense and rocky light khaki head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice dense foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big raisin, plum, fig, date, pear, apricot, red apple, honey, caramel, brown sugar, brown bread dough/crust, and toasted biscuit; with lighter notes of cocoa, roast, leather, tobacco, herbal, wood, grass, peppercorn, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity yeast, dark/bready malts, and light-moderate earthy hop notes; with big strength. Taste of big raisin, plum, fig, date, pear, apricot, red apple, honey, caramel, brown sugar, brown bread dough/crust, and toasted biscuit; with lighter notes of cocoa, roast, leather, tobacco, herbal, wood, grass, peppercorn, citrus peel/rind, pine, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, woody, grassy, peppery, roasted bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of raisin, plum, fig, date, pear, apricot, red apple, honey, caramel, brown sugar, brown bread dough/crust, toasted biscuit, nuts, cocoa, roast, leather, tobacco, herbal, wood, grass, peppercorn, citrus peel/rind, pine, and yeast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity yeast, dark/bready malts, and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and no cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a smooth, creamy/bready/grainy/sticky/resinous, and lightly slick/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Mild increasing warmth of 10.4% after the finish. Overall this is an excellent wheatwine. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity yeast, dark/bready malts, and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; very smooth and easy to sip on for the big ABV, with the modestly bitter/resinous/drying finish; not overly aggressive. Feels like a lot of Chinook/Columbus hops. Great balance of rich malts and fruity yeast complexity; with a great dank/earthy hop presence/balance. Light residual sweetness with lingering resin dryness. A very enjoyable offering, and well made style example as expected of the breweries. Definitely some noticeable oxidation, but not overwhelming. Aged just as well as any American style barleywine should.

OG bomber batch poured into a mikkeller star teku appears a dark copper with yellowish khaki cap that fades leaving spotty lace.

Aroma is toasted to caramel malt with slight mineral inclusion and fruity alcohol. Faint oxidation.

Taste has some fruity alcohol upfront blended with dusty grain, minerals and faded hop bitterness. Some sherry and cardboard oxidation in the aftertaste.

Medium in body with modest carbonation. Would have been interesting to know what this was like fresh.

Bottle: Poured a deep dirty cloudy brown color ale with a medium size foamy head with OK retention and some light lacing. Aroma of heavy residual sugars with some dry grainy notes is quite intense. Taste is also dominated by heavy amounts of residual sugars with some dry grainy malt of wheat. Body is full with limited filtration and medium carbonation with light warming alcohol notes. A bit intense to drink in large quantities but interesting nonetheless.

Vintage bottle received in trade from MeadMe, thanks for the opportunity!
Pours a slightly hazy deep copper color with a smallish khaki head that persists for a while before leaving some lace on the sides. Aroma is sweet with bready, honey sweet, sugary malt. Lots of caramel and brown sugar, sweet orange and a bit of spice and earthy hop aroma. Surprisingly little alcohol aroma for a beer at almost 11%. The flavor is sweet and malty up front with a ton of brown sugary caramel. The alcohol shows itself in the flavor and provides a whole lot of warming on the way down. Deep orange and light sweet fruity flavors along with a hint of spice and earthy hop round out the flavor nicely. Very faint sherry like oxidation but not nearly as present as the oatgoop last night. Medium to thick body with a light to moderate level of carbonation and a sweet almost syrupy mouthfeel. This one's holding up fairly well, I enjoyed the hell out of it, like an old Barleywine at Mike's house in Feb.
