Served into a snifter. Great looking beer. Bright ruby colored with a tan head of about 3 inches and frothy lacing. Smells of vanilla, dark fruits, butterscotch, brown sugar and a little bit of alcohol. Taste follows the smell with pronounced toffee and molasses as well. This makes a nice nightcap which is exactly what I expected and like about a wheatwine. Overall, I'm glad to have obtained this and think it has aged well.

Bottle: Poured a deep dirty cloudy brown color ale with a medium size foamy head with OK retention and some light lacing. Aroma of heavy residual sugars with some dry grainy notes is quite intense. Taste is also dominated by heavy amounts of residual sugars with some dry grainy malt of wheat. Body is full with limited filtration and medium carbonation with light warming alcohol notes. A bit intense to drink in large quantities but interesting nonetheless.

Vintage bottle received in trade from MeadMe, thanks for the opportunity!
Pours a slightly hazy deep copper color with a smallish khaki head that persists for a while before leaving some lace on the sides. Aroma is sweet with bready, honey sweet, sugary malt. Lots of caramel and brown sugar, sweet orange and a bit of spice and earthy hop aroma. Surprisingly little alcohol aroma for a beer at almost 11%. The flavor is sweet and malty up front with a ton of brown sugary caramel. The alcohol shows itself in the flavor and provides a whole lot of warming on the way down. Deep orange and light sweet fruity flavors along with a hint of spice and earthy hop round out the flavor nicely. Very faint sherry like oxidation but not nearly as present as the oatgoop last night. Medium to thick body with a light to moderate level of carbonation and a sweet almost syrupy mouthfeel. This one's holding up fairly well, I enjoyed the hell out of it, like an old Barleywine at Mike's house in Feb.

My Three Floyds quest continues. Bottle opened on 6.18.12.

A - Pours a murky medium brown with a small tan head, pretty fizzy.

S - Sweet, fermented wheat, and some dark ripe fruits.

T - Sweet raisins, toffee, carmel, and bread.

D - Decent carbonation and a heavier than expected body.

O - Sweet and old ripe fruit makes this old wheay boy pack a punch.

Bomber poured into a globe glass
Slowly working way through the entire range of the collaboration
Thanks to Mrkennedy for sourcing this at Warners at the Bay

A-- Poured a darker, hazy orange color. One finger light brown head that fell to half a finger and then film. Just really held up well for the age of this beer. Great head retention and body to this. Left spotty lacing through drinking.

S-- Hops still quite there. A bit of a smoother smell with the wheat. candied orange and grapefruit. bits of carmel and biscuit. More just surprised how good the nose is. Just expected this to be a bit flatter and the hop character to be gone by this point.

T-- Orange, grapefruit, and pine in the taste. honestly quite shocking that the hops are still dominant. Bits of carmel and bread in the background. Would say slightly smoother with the wheat. Good stuff.

M-- Rich feel. Medium feel and medium low carbonation. Slightly sticky at times. More of a barleywine feel at this point but cleaner.

O-- Outstanding considering the age of this. Must have been a hop bomb fresh. really a pleasure to drink and glad to have tried. ABV was still quite noticeable and got a buzz after drinking this. interesting

Bottle that I picked up at the brewery at DLD 08. In my Great Divide snifter.

A surprisingly dark red pour that's quite hazy, this beer has a dense, creamy, beige head with excellent retention and some lacing. The nose caught me by surprise. Despite its age, this still does smell surprisingly fresh (in some aspects). There still is quite a bit of hop character present, though it's more noticeable as a piney bitterness with some candied fruit. Plenty of caramelized fruits with plums, raisins, some sugar and caramel syrup are also present. Wheat, less bready and more "clean", "snappy" and flatbread-like than, say, the raw wheat character from a hefeweizen. Really good IMO.

At 4 years of age, this beer is still bold and brash on the palate. Still quite bitter (pine, candied grapefruit again), but thankfully, without oxidized hop character (no cheese!), this is well balanced with a fairly complex malt flavors present. Plenty of fruit (plums, raisins and aforementioned grapefruit), some caramel, some dark honey and a little bit of brown sugar are present. Again, the wheat character isn't particularly strong, coming off as clean but distinctive, reminiscent in some ways of the Smuttynose Wheatwine. Full in body with a soft, creamy carbonation, the alcohol here is noticeable, especially on the finish, where it adds a slightly minty note to all the fruit and bitterness. Surprisingly excellent stuff, I might actually drink the entire bottle. Recommended.

22oz Bottle - thanks to lubiere

Appearance - Brown/copper colour with a small size fizzy beige coloured head. I can't make out the level of carbonation and there is some fair lacing. The head lasted for around 3 minutes.

Smell - Malts, caramel/toffee, hops, raisins,

Taste & Mouth - There is a below average amount of carbonation and I can taste malts, caramel and some herbal notes. There is also a touch of hops and some fruit esters mixed with an earthiness. It ends with a dark fruit and caramel sweet aftertaste.

Overall - The beer drinks more like a barley wine than a wheat wine. The alcohol is very well hidden and the taste is smooth. Although it would have been nice to taste this fresh, it seemed to age quite well.
