Pours a cloudy orange color with an off white eukra like head. A nice thick creamy head with some lacing. The body here is nearly void of any carbonation, looks nearly dead and the weight and body of this beer is very apparent.
The beer looks like something else, but the nose is extremely hoppy smelling. A huge citrus american hop storm simply dominates the malt. The only hints of malt I can't place but they generally come through and perhaps they are lactose, but the description has me a bit biased.
Citrus biting floral hops are over the top and just wonderfully out of balance. The odd part of this beer is the malt which clearly they are advertising with this beer. The malt doesn't have anything overt or apparent, it just comes off as a light sweet balance that mellows the bitterness. The thing is beers like dreadnaught, black hearted, and panzer from them all have powerful malt flavors that are intense in complexity and flavor. The malt here is just as strong flavored but not nearly as complex.
This beer drinks like milk. It is thick as hell, creamy, and while the carbonation is hidden when you look, microscopic bubbles excite the tongue when drinking.
I really don't want to know how many calories are in this beer. This thing is over the top, intense, and most likely the best weight gainer on the planet. That said this is a lovely beer. I expect the malt will take over a bit more with some age (and we're talking 2-3 months), but for now a hoppy bitter beer.
On a final note, guys what's up with the prices? 10 bucks for a double IPA and this is one of your cheaper double IPAs? That is a 22 dollar 4 pack. Get it down to 15 for a 4 pack and it might be a repeat buy.
