Happy IPA day everyone! Picked up this bomber in Chicago a few weeks back.
A: hazy orange-gold with multiple fingers of frothy, white head. Good retention, strong lace. Head instantly reappears with a swirl of the glass a half hour after the initial pour. IPAs aren't supposed to look this good!
S: sweet malts, earthy hops, juicy grapefruit. Strong, aromatic, and fantastic.
T: starts off sweet with a tangy grapefruit tartness slowly moving forward. Strongly hopped, but not overly bitter. Finishes mildly sweet with an interesting infusion of lactose and carefully balanced hoppy bitterness that lingers as it goes down. Mild alcoholic warmth reminds you this is a DIPA.
M: on the lighter side of full-bodied. Still smooth and somewhat creamy, but a bigger body would definitely improve upon the greatness that is Apocalypse Cow.
D: very high for me (I don't particularly like IPAs). This beer is absolutely delicious and has me craving more. It's a solid step above DFH 90, but not quite on the same level as Pliny.
That said, the malt/hop mixture here is superb. I'd happily throw this into my regular rotation if it were available in NY.

650ml bottle, date 6.27.2014, poured into a Three Floyds Eye pint glass.
The beer pours nicely clear copper color, hues of amber and orange, light chill haze with a nice amount of bubbles rising to the top of the glass where a thick, frothy, white head appears, about 2 fingers high, with very nice retention that yields nice swatches of soapy lace. The aroma is bitter, plenty of juicy hops, resinous, fruity, citrusy, with loads of rich malt, with ample sweetness to counteract the hops ever so slightly. The flavors are nice, plenty of juicy citrus and mango, amply bitter with loads of pine as well, the malts are sweeter, but not overly so, they do provide some nice bitterness and some assertive richness. The mouthfeel is nice, super rich, full bodied, nice and juicy with a lovely, silky feel, carbonation is perfect with a soft, lightly dry finish. The lactose sugar really does the trick for the body, so smooth and easy.
Verdict: A very nice IIPA from Three Floyds, fitting of their "not normal" mantra with the lactose sugar addition. The mouthfeel is perfect, the hop flavors are a little darker than I like, but the balance is nice, loads of bitter goodness.

Appearance: Saffron/sunglow body with an ivory/snow head.
Aroma: Lemon, mango, papaya, and floral hops.
Taste: Papaya, grapefruit, sweet/bready malts, and floral hops.
Mouthfeel: Smooth, but with a slightly dry finish.
Overall: Another success from 3F, despite it leaving your mouth a bit dry (I like my IPAs nice and wet). Nevertheless, I enjoyed this immensely.
