Style | ABV
American Double / Imperial IPA |  11.00% ABV

Availability: Summer

Notes/Commercial Description:
9.5-11.0% ABV, 100 IBUs - This complex double India pale ale has an intense citrus and floral hop aroma balanced by a velvety malt body which has been augmented with lactose milk sugar. With this different take on an IPA we have brewed an ale that is both pleasing to drink and, once again, “not normal.” Cheers! June release.

Got this fresh from Bridges Liquor in New Albany IN, always a great place to get fresh 3 Floyds. Appearance was like golden honey, very nice! Smell is tropical and citrus with perhaps some piney hops coming through. The taste is pretty amazing on this hot summer day (103 in Louisville!) actually expected it to be a bit more hoppy considering the smell but am in no way disappointed. The tropical and citrusy taste is wonderful for this type of day. The mouth feel and smoothness of this beer is very high which I'm assuming is due to the addition of lactose sugar, also considering the high ABV which is completely undetectable and the fact it is so fresh this is one of the best DIPA's I have had all summer. So glad I live close enough to 3 Floyds where I can get fresh bottles anytime I want. This is one I have been anticipating since last year my wallet was a little short when this came around, highly recommended if you can get it within the first couple months of it's annual release

An exceptional double IPA from Three Floyds. The addition of milk lactose sugars really makes this a VERY smooth and drinkable beer. The aroma is fantastic. This stuff sends shivers down my spine it's so good. This is considered one of Three Floyds seasonal beers, so it's availability is quite limited. It's released in June each year, and usually gone shortly thereafter. The release for this year is purported to be in the second half of June. As of this writing (June 19, 2012), it's not out yet.

Appearance: It has a nice cloudy deep golden/orange color to it. It has a nice thick off-white head that dies down moderately and leaves nice lacing.

Smell: The aromas definitly give out hints of pine, citrus, pineapple, sweet caramel, lactose and bubble gum.

Taste: Like the aromas, it has a nice citrus/pineapple/tropical hop character to it with lots of pine, some spices and a sweet caramel and bready malt balance.

Mouthfeel: It has a low/medium carbonation with a nice creamy overall balance and feel.

Drinkability: It's a very smooth drinkable beer accompanied with great flavors and aromas. Not as hoppy as I usually like my DIPA's but still very good considering the different approach.
