Hazy yellow body sprouts thick, white head. Sticky lace, looks very nice. Appearance is the brew's strongest attribute.

Aroma is spicy and bready, though not super complex. Taste doesn't have much going for it: spices are surprisingly absent, malt takes over and washes away any hints of flavor. Disappointing across the board. FFF should stick to IPAs & stouts.

Appearance – This one poured a glowing orange in color with some light carbonation and almost no head.

Smell – This is more wheaty in the nose than anything else. I couldn’t pick up much in the way of traditional Saison smells. It had a pleasant bouquet, just not what I was expecting.

Taste – The traditional farmhouse character showed up a bit at the taste. I still found that mild wheatiness from the nose, though. There are also some whopping hops to this one.

Mouthfeel – This is in between medium and light-bodied and very smooth in between the cheeks.

Drinkability – This was a pleasant, easy drinker that went down well. It was off-style but adequate.

22 oz Bomber from Riley’s - $10.99. Great label with FFF’s unique art.

The Rabid Rabbit pours into a large snifter slowly with some haze and a pretty, soft peach-copper with a ¼ inch blanket of foam on top. The head reduces to a thin lace quickly but carbonation streams keep small clumps of foam going for the duration of consumption.

The aroma is warm, welcoming and very spiced. Sensations of cinnamon, clove, cardamom, lavender, and pepper. I’m reminded of pumpkin pie. Just a hint of tart lemon juice and a pinch of farmhouse earth pull through reminding me of more traditional saisons.

The first taste is a blend of pale malts, citrus hops, earth and spice. I’m immediately impressed by the comforting quality of the body. All of the spices from the aroma shine through in the flavor but here there is even more. Is that chamomile tea? Damn it, I hope my throat doesn’t swell up (cursed chamomile allergy). Silky yeasts add fruit flavor and a coating feel on the tongue. Bread dough and melon, tangerines, and some booze come through as it warms. Medium to full bodied, decent drinkability.

Two expensive to drink more then once a year but good.

Rabbid Rabbit has a modest head and a deep golden color that strikes me as a bit on the dark side. The smells are faint but spicy and fresh. This is a deeply tangy and rather spicy beer, though I can't really pick out identifiable spice tastes. Not very much in the way of earthy or yeasty qualities here, but this is none the less a complex beer. Mouthfeel is kinda thick and syrupy, but doesn't hurt drinkability much as it seems to kind of blunt the spices. Highly carbed this might be a bit harsh. Drinkability is dangerous for a beer of this ABV. Not the faintest hint of booze. It definately had me assed. I don't know much about Saison, but I know I really liked this beer, and found myself wishing it had less alcohol so I could drink more of it.

I was very happy to see this bottled and available during Dark Lord Day. $10/bomber with yet more awesome psychedelic label artwork. Pours from the bomber into my tulip glass a vibrant deep orange with a creamy, bubbly half inch head and lots of active carbonation. Aroma starts with pale, slightly bready malts coated in candi sugar sweetness. A big mix of floral spiciness follows with notes of lavender, chamomile and a melding of light fruit scents. Slightly peppery yeast tones. Enjoyable stuff.

First sip brings a crisp, pale sweet maltiness upfront that quickly takes on a mix of floral, fruity and spicy flavors. Strong notes of chamomile and lavender alongside some hints of citrus fruit. Spicy throughout with an herbal bitterness on the way down. Mellow yeastiness and a nice finish. A tasty brew to be had here overall.

Mouthfeel is smooth, on the lighter side with good steady bubbles. Quite refreshing with no sign of the slightly high abv to be found. A good summer brew that I'll enjoy on the beach when I'm camping in July. This is an interesting take on a saison that ends up being quite enjoyable. However, the price point pushes down the drinkability on this one for me personally. If it was more around $5 a bomber I'd be drinkin it all summer!

Pours a crystal clear light amber with minimal head and minimal lacing. Aroma is mulling spices and sweet malts. Taste is somewhere between a hot cider and a strong ale, with lots of cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg and sugary sweetness. Enjoyable beer, but sweetness makes it slightly sticky in the mouth. Overall, one full pint was enough for my session, but I could see drinking it again. Would rather have it on a nice autumn day than in the spring, but that's just my preference.

Living across the Ohio River from Indiana, I come across a few of the Three Floyds beers on a regular basis but Gumballhead seems to be the only readily available TF brew to be found in the Evansville area. I found the Rabid Rabbit in Clarksville, on a sidetrip through Louisville, last weekend. This pours a hazy apricot body with a modest, offwhite head that totally disappears, without lacing, after a few minutes. A second pour, to no surprise, revitalizes the appearance.

Aroma is dominated by caramel, bubblegum, and banana pudding, not exactly what I would expect from a good Saison. Signature Three Floyds hops are not even at play here. There are some nice floral and herbal notes here which suggest the style.

Mouthfeel is medium, with an out of place syrupy sweetness. Carbonation is medium.

Taste is pleasant, and kind of unique. Hops are spicy and herbal. Good floral bitterness, and the malt presence is assertively caramel. Some hints of pepper and coriander, but this really tastes more like a modified Dubbel than a Saison. Finishes on the herbal hops bitterness side of things.

Not a true Saison, but typically a solid offering from one of the best breweries in America's Heartland. I'm certain that I will try this one again.

Bomber purchased at the new northern Foodery location in Philly. Couldn't find any freshness indication. The second glass from the bottle was very cloudy due to a respectable yeast load on the bottom of the bottle. This is a strange and differant brew, they put chamomile tea in it and it tastes of it. Sort of a sweat, yeasty, malty, off-kilter American heartland attempt at a Saison. I did pick up some more typical Belgian phenolics, but they are muddled and jumbled into this one. Not my favorite Three Floyds or Saison. Most likely would never purchase this one again.

22oz bomber capped and graced by a giant mutant rabbit. Pours a cloudy, dim gold color with an abundant amount of sediment lilting around in there. The head is quite forceful initially, almost as if it had be corked. It eventually forms into a stiff cappuccino dome, but recedes surprisingly quickly.

The smell is warm and dry, dominated by yeast, cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg--not exactly what I would expect from a Saison. The flavor also goes against the norm, those spices up front, along with a hint of cocoa, followed by a flare of sugary candy, a touch of dark fruit, a nip of orange peel, and loads of malt. A little clove also asserts itself at the end, and the alcohol is well under control.

It's light-bodied and not quite as complex as I was hoping. It's interesting on the tongue, but the ride is pretty short-lived. It's drinkable, though gets a little sappy on the tongue and lips after about a pint's worth.

This beer goes against the expectations of the style, and I don't think that is a bad thing--the label screams twice "It's not normal." And it isn't. It's a different, satisfying take on Saison.

Pours a beautiful glowing cloudy orange body with a bright white head forming thick in my new Tripel Karmeliet glass. Aroma has a big punch of citrus, and herbal spice, chalky yeast notes, and a touch of alcohol coming together. As I take my first initial sips, I get a strong assertive bitterness from the herbal chamomile, citrus peel edges, and strong long lasting spicy notes from the yeast. Bright citric notes initially followed by hints of bready sweetness all followed by a strong alcohol flavor, it was the last bottle available at Chalet Premier in North Lima, OH. Worth it to try it, sense I've been looking for this beer pretty much since they first brewed it. Mouthfeel was effervescent with sturdy carbonation medium bodied yet mellow and smooth nothing overbearing, a bit of alcohol warmth I welcomed along with a lasting spice/bitterness on the palate. Overall a truly tasty American brewed saison, which was definitely worth it. Will I revisit this one soon, probably not because I prefer the hoppy 3 Floyd's offerings.

A- This beer has a hazy golden warm brown body with a bubbly light tan head that last a good bit. The carbonation of tiny bubble race to the surface.

S- A soft note of perfume, peaches and a faint ginger yeast hint are finish with a nice punch of grassy hops.

T- This beer has a soft pale malt with a slight sweetness that has some nice fruit flavor notes with a light yeasty hint. The malt has a very soft chamomile note that allows the fruity flavor to come through. The finish a nice green and grassy hops with little hop bitterness. There is no alcohol taste to the finish, which is pretty neutral. As it warms there is a coriander note comes through in the malt.

M- This beer has a light mouthfeel with crisp texture. There is a faint alcohol warmth as it warms a bit.

D- This beer has lots of nice complex flavors that disguise one another very nicely. The flavors are hard to pull apart but all work together and the hops are big but appropriate to the beer. No big pine flavor or grapefruit flavor in the hops.

22oz. brown bomber, purchased at Sam's in Chicago, poured into a flute. No dating.

A: Pours an attractive mango orange with some yeasty clouding. 1 1/2 fingers of white head forms, a bit fizzy, and falls to a thick, rough skim. Some wisps of lacing here and there.

S: Very yeasty, plenty of esters. Smells more like a wit, loads more banana and clove than I've experienced in a saison before. There's a neat spicy floral element to it, which I'm guessing is the Chamomile, although I would have never guessed that. It's a nice twist but also seems a bit like Vics vaporub.

T/M: It definitely has that extra rock candy; Sweetness is massive in the candy sugar, though doesn't feel out of control. More of the wit-like flavors. The added Chamomile is too pronounced. I think it would have been much better at complimentary levels. Plenty of spicy yeast and fruity esters. Body is moderate with plenty of bubbly carbonation.

D: It's a decent brew. Definitely different. Drinks easy enough. I like the uniqueness but maybe a bit over done. It's definitely not a drain pour, but 22oz. has ended up being a bit of a struggle caused by the 'uniqueness' haha. And $9 a bomber is typical FFF.

Pours a cloudy yellowish orange color with a thin 1/2inch head. Leaves little lacing.

Smells very earthy with a sweet aroma. Alchoal is present in smell.

Tastes earthy with light spice and bitterness from the hops. Kind of tangy and sweet.

Has medium thick body with a good amount of carbonation.

This is the first saison I have had and if they are all like this I won't have many more.

A: Completely opaque with haze - sunburst orange/gold. An oddly minimal white head considering the style - very slight, wispy retention.

S: Very, very sweet biscuit. Slightly spicy from the belgian yeast and coriander. Other nuances of sweet orange peel and lemon zest. Kind of an odd smelling saison

T: Similar to the aroma - sweet biscuit, some belgian and citrus spice, and very subtle must and funk.

P: Creamy, smooth, soft carbonation - does not really fit; again, feels odd.

O: This style is not a strong one for floyds. I loved zes zes zes, but it was a floyds take on the style - super hopped up and unique.

A - Golden, hazy, light white head - dissipates to the rim quickly

S - light lemon grass, wheat, bread, orange peel

T - Sweet candy, pineapple, slightly booze, carmel.

M - Medium body, not particularly frothy, sweetness dominates.

O - A bit sweet for a saison and for my taste personally. Actually let me rephrase that, I don't like the rock candy added and the more of this beer I sip - I really dont like it.

Amber/orange in color with a nice active white head. The smell is fruity and sweet with a little alcohol bite. The taste is fairly complex, with lots of sweet sugars and malts, fruity yeast flavors, and a combination of hops and spices that leave a slightly herbal finish. Mouthfeel is slightly sticky, but balanced in the carbonation department. Overall this is probably one of the best I've had from the Floyds.

Pours a golden orange with tons of tiny bubbles raising to the surface crating a snow white heat that melts rather quickly to a minor ring although the bubbles keep rising.
Very light aroma for a Saison...mostly a sweet malt and Belgium yeast smell.
Taste is clean and fresh with Belgium yeasts and tiny fruits with earthy undertones...almost barnyard. Slight vinegar aftertaste. Very peppery=spicy flavor becomes prominent when you swallow and it leaves your mouth.
Not a great Saison, but not bad...very clean and refreshing and palette cleansing when drunk with a meal.

Like so many Three Floyds beers, the label is awesome: a green, apparently rabid rabbit just beginning to rip into what looks suspiciously like the gnome from the Chouffe labels (love the skull-painted Easter egg!).

This one sits confidently in the goblet like it was born in Flanders. The head is creamy and composed of almost microscopically small bubbles. It sticks around a while, and as it thins leaves a large swath of lace on the glass. Color is a hazy burnt orange, like honey or orange marmalade.

Smell is surprisingly doughy, with a dab of vanilla. Somewhat lemony, a hint of flowery hops too. Spices and yeast are kept in check, which is surprising considering the style. Favors the fruity side of things with a generous malt presence.

Flavor delivers everything the aroma said it would, but with a subtle yet crucial anise character. Caraway seed also comes to mind, mingling amidst the pear/peach fruitiness and the politely dirty yeast element. Would probably pair insanely well with Indian food. Lightly tart and somehow cheesy finish. Mouthfeel does the trick, but fails to wow...it simply strikes a balance between carbonation and buttery slickness.

Take your time with it. Rabbid Rabbit's complexities aren't apparent on the first several sips. Neither is the 9% alcohol. I would've guessed 6% at most. Tons of depth to be discovered, obviously. I also like how it's not insanely hoppy, as one might expect from this brewery (not that there's anything wrong with that). With Robert the Bruce, Gorch Fock and now this bad-ass Rabbit, Three Floyds are proving they're not just a one-trick hops-pony.

Bottle poured into de dolle tulip. Hazy apricot orangish yellow with a small white head that fades fast. Smell is all yeast, cloves, earthy, some orange rind. Taste is similar, peppery and sharp, yeast, some peach flavors most likely from amarillo, slightly malty. Mouthfeel is light with a heavy carbonation. Watery feeling in the finish and pretty dry. An ok beer with some interesting flavors, but far from my favorite saison or favorite three floyds beer.

Poured a dark orange color with a billowing, resilient head. Smells of chamomile, nutmeg, spices. Spicey zest, orange, chamomile, hops define most of the taste for me and there is really some very obvious mint. It is a smooth drink with a creamy mouthfeel. The high ABV is not obvious. Overall a pleasant and interesting take on the saison style.

Medium orange with some head. Pleasant citrus and cinammon and corriander aroma, and taste. If there were gradients in the important taste rating, it would be higher than a 3.5 average rating. Not very complex, still pleasant, refreshing and quite drinkable. Thanks Crushinator,A good saison in many ways, however I have had bolder and more varied taste and aromas saisons, what a great style.

A- slightly hazy straw color with foamy head expected from a Saison.
S- Yeast with a sweetness. Baking bread.
T- Pretty standard of what I expect for a Saison/Farmhouse ale. Sweet with slight apricot (if I had to name a fruit)
M- Very good... again what I would expect for a Saison/Farmhouse. Bubbly and not too thin.
O - I actually enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Pretty standard example of a saison. Smooth drinking and good flavor.

A - 22oz bomber with a very bizzarre scenario depicting a giant rabbit monster throttling a David the Gnome sort of character. Ok, whatever. The brew is an orangish bronze hue, cloudy, and golden around the edges. This one has a foamy 1 and 1/2 finger head and lots of sugary lace.

S - Butterscotch, ripe fruit, yeast, some toffee and caramel candy notes, and a banana scent that is closer to banana Laffy-Taffy than real bananas.

T - Sweet and caramely at first, then hoppy and floral in the middle before a wave of peppery alcohol spice kicks it up a notch. This is candy-sweet, slightly fruity, floral, hoppy, grassy, and very spicey. A superb brew!

M - Moderately carbonated, slightly acidic, medium/light in body, loads of spicey alcohol warmth, with a somewhat dry finish.

D - Excellent except for the price...I paid an arm and a leg for this one! I love the strange, unique, and complex flavors.

Three Floy'ds Rabbid Rabbit pours a mostly clear golden-orange-amber body beneath a short head of creamy white foam that holds fairly well. The final pour of the bottle will, however, bring it quite hazy with yeast. It's a very nice appearance, but unfortunately the lacing is just average.

Delicate spice and rich, doughy malt combine in the nose leaving it perfumey and floral. Hops are leafy and herbal in the background... or is the herbal character from the chamomile? The alcohol sneaks through a little bit; and there's a touch of a plastic-like phenolic that carries through into the flavor as well (high fermentation temperature).

It's full and creamy in the mouth - surprising at 9% abv! The carbonation is low for the style, but that adds to the fullness in the mouth, and that's not necessarily a bad thing either.

Malt dominates the flavor profile... doughy and gently candyish. It's rich and round and just subtly toasty and mildly caramel-tinged. Light herbal and floral spiciness rounds it out, and then floats about the mouth in the finish. Some delicate phenolics lend a hand to it's candy character. Bitterness is kept at a minimum for the style, and this is a malt-monster compared to most of the saisons coming out of Belgium and France. It lacks a bit of complexity and dryness, and perhaps even balance. Still, it's quite enjoyable as it is, and surprisingly drinkable. It's just not what I think of when I think of Saison.

smell: sweet and floral, lots of different candied fruit - peach, apricot, orange, berry, lemon...well spiced, toasted malt, light alcohol

taste: lots of sweet fruit with a candy peach flavor dominating, lemony, berry, apricot, tangerine-orange citrus, melon...strongly spiced, sweet toasted malt, a touch doughy, peppery, yeasty, adequately hopped, moderate alcohol presence...Not my favourite FFF effort and not my favourite saison, but worth the try
