Shared bottle at RBNAG 2011 in Oslo. Bronze colour. I was getting slightly inebriated when this beer finally came up in the tasting, but had still the capacity to recognize the qualities of a fine barleywine. Well balanced and pleasant aroma and flavour, malty and sweet but not too extreme. Strong, but not too alcoholic - smooth to drink for its strength. Very good.

Got this as a part of a blind trade. Just swapping area beers without asking for anything in particular. I had pretty low expectations for this when I realized it was brewed in 2008 and now 6 years old. The style seems interesting but potentially past it's prime. Man was I wrong. This Barleywine has lost 99 percent of its potent hop aroma and flavor but it has mellowed out into one of the most unique Barleywines I've ever had. The mouthfeel is super creamy and thick but there is the undeniable sweet/sharp malt character found in a good Barleywine. This beer is incredibly drinkable at 10% and is really an enjoyable experience. Something I don't expect to experience in a again in a beer.
