Pours a deep dark brown with no escaping light, minimal lighter brown hues along the edges, minimal thin khaki head which quickly dissipates leaving minimal retention.
Aromas are quite complex. Lightly roasted light coffee, leather, burnt wood (not smoky or charred, just woody) and a prevailing dark caramel malt presence throughout. As it warms I get some sweeter vanilla, maple and a slight earthiness (almost like wet dirt, which sounds awful but it's not). Really complex.
The tastes begin with a punch of dark caramel maltiness coupled with sweeter toffee and lighter coffee roastiness. The oak notes join the party next imparting some light peat, vanilla and maple; maybe some darker fruits as well (raisin and dates). Brown sugar and toffee resonate throughout into the finish.
The mouthfeel is medium bodied with lower carbonation. Finish is slightly dry from the oak aging but still quite sweet because of the high ABV and dark caramel malt profile. Flavors linger for just the appropriate amount of time. Not a drop of alcohol can be detected, although I may feel it soon.
Overall this was a real treat, great flavor profile overall. I am not sure what this tasted like fresh, but it is still drinking great right now. Amazing balance of oak imparted flavors with darker caramelized malts. Sweet toffee, vanillas and dark fruits; what more can you ask for in a great beer. Dangerously drinkable and highly recommended it you can still find it or trade for it.

Brown and red towards the edge, beige head under half an inch. Retaining the head or providing the lace didn't go so well for this one. Aroma was sweet, syrup, woody, spice rack, vanilla.
Taste was kind of a mess. A hodgepodge beer, throw a bunch of shit in that doesn't jive, brown malt, spice rack, cardamom, cumin, coriander, whatever. Too boozy. Too much dark fruit. Has the DFH hallmarks all over it.
