A - A light copper/orange color with ruby highlights and and fair translucence that refracts light in golden brown and light yellow. Absolutely amazing color. A white head forms on pour and slowly recedes, but laces the glass quite well.
S - A heavy fruit smell with cherries and pear, complemented by some muted citrus hop flavor. Some mild caramel sits underneath, and some booze burn if you sniff too hard.
T - The strong fruit smell leads well into the taste. The aforementioned cherry and pear are present with some pine hops in the middle for balance and a finish of syrupy caramel. the hops are perfectly stated as they come in the middle, complement the fruit and provide balance and then quickly fade, letting the caramel malt go to work. A very first course, main course, dessert presentation. Well done.
Mouthfeel - Very thick, with some slight sugary syrup. A fair amount of carbonation, maybe slightly excessive for a beer with this much flavor.
D - The alcohol is hidden quite well, but its still there and you can feel it after a bomber. Still a deliciously sweet brew that was almost too easy to drink, especially since this is such a sipper.
My favorite barley wine.
