On cask at Pizzeria Paradiso in Dupont. Thanks to the guys for the heads-up on this.

Pouring a rather dark amber, this is quite a bit too dark for an APA. Good clarity, there's a dense, off-white head that's creamy, with good retention and lacing. The nose is a touch disappointing. Opening with a moderate hop character, there's some orange and grapefruit but mostly, there's just too much malt. Plenty of caramel with moderate sweetness and some honey, it overpowers the hop character. On the palate, it's the same but arguably worse. Opening quite sweet with plenty of caramel malt sweetness, I guess they overdid the crystal malt on this beer. Hop character is far from sufficient for the sweetness that's present, with some orange. Sweet on the finish, this beer is decent on the palate with a nice, mellow carbonation. Drinkability was less than average - it was 100 degrees out, and it still took me about 45 minutes to drink this. Not recommended.

Served at the Three Floyds Pub in an imperial pint glass...

I would say this is an american pale ale with less hops. Is it bad, no. Is it what we've come to expect from FFF? No.

The beer is a deep copper with golden hints towards the edges. A tan head rose a little over a finger and had decent retention-- very little lace...

Smells of sweet malts and citrus hops. The smell is actually very nice. The taste is a little too malt-forward for the style. It isn't bad, but it doesn't impress me. I'd rather have alpha king. This one seems to have the same recipe, just less hops. This is just average as an offering from a normally outstanding brewery. The body is medium with decent carbonation, but the lack of "oomph" is a double edged sword-- would make it an easy crossover to a BMC drinker... But is a little inulting to craft
fans that love FFF brews...

Overall-- worth a shot, but I'm sure FFF won't even bother bottling it. Their most mediocre offering I've sampled.

On tap into a pint glass at Hopleaf...Pours a dark orange, more like copper with a light white head. Only about a finger of retention not much lacing or great retention...The aroma is super light, mostly malty, light caramel, a little orange...Taste is ok, nothing special. Light malt again, too sweet. at 65 ibu's not a ton of bitterness. A really sweet boring pale ale...It was tough to drink the whole glass.

Served in a pint glass on-tap at The Firkin in Libertyville, IL

This beer pours a nice clear orange nice lacing on the glass as it goes down. The smell is of many malty delicious aromas with some hop thrown in there as well with some orange zest for a nice kick to the nose. The taste is really nothing all that impressive to talk about there is some pale malt flavor and some hop flavor nothing really more than that. It doesn't taste bad it's just not impressive. The consistency of it is really much waterier than I would expect a PA to be, but that doesn't mean that it's acrid or undrinkable. It's a nice little APA, but nothing to go and write home about.

Pours a nice light amber color with a small amount of head that lingers just a bit.

Aroma is fairly mild - slightly sweet & hoppy. Flavor is more complex with some hops and a sort of light spicy/peppery note coming through - very interesting and somewhat unique.

Nicely carbonated and very drinkable. A very solid beer.

NOTE: listed at 6% abv on the menu.
A: copper/amber with orange highlights, clear save for a slight chill haze. nice creamy eggshell head and lacing.
S: resiny tropical fruit, red grapefruit and caramel, slightly understated nose but nice with that signature 3Fs smell in the background (and i don't mean the hops, it's something else unique to 3Fs)-is it the yeast strain?
T: moderately sweet caramelly malts are well-balanced by the listed 45 IBUs of smooth hop bitterness. almost clean at the end with the finish lingering a bit.
M: very interesting with the smoothness from the oats. being a well-carbonated pale ale, i'd expect some frothiness but instead it's kinda slick.
D: i had another pint after i finished the first one, so, yeah.

Served in a shaker pint glass at The Firkin.

Originally, this was chalkboarded as the Hand of Doom (which was momentarily exciting), but the error was quickly fixed. Oh well, this wasn't too bad for a replacement...at least, it wasn't to me, anyway. It pours a clear amber topped by a finger of creamy foam. The nose comprises light honeydew, light cantaloupe, and sweet caramel. The taste runs along a similar path, but this time accompanied by pine, grapefruit, and an extra helping of caramel. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a very smooth feel. Overall, a very nice and tasty APA, a welcome surprise while enjoying some live music at the Firk.

A straight-up APA. I had it at DLD but I've heard it's kegged and can be purchased at bars around Chicagoland.

Pours like your regular APA. Very orange, like a hazy glass of Tang, with a nice white head.

Smells damned amazing. Huge pine, bigger grapefruit, and a surprisingly complex yeast profile that's like uncooked biscuit dough. Not much of a malt presence, but the varied hops and strong yeast balance each other out quite well.

Doesn't taste quite as well balanced (or complex) as the aroma had led me to believe. The bitterness is highly subdued, and a good amount of earthy malt sweetness is present, moving into light grapefruit in the middle, ending on a mix of cereal grain and biscuit yeast. Nice, but not great.

Drank at Three Floyds Pub earlier today.

Appearance -- pours a beautiful bright copper with one finger of bubbly white head that largely stayed put until the last drop.

Smell -- Citrus rind, bready malt, and a hint of caramel.

Taste -- Strong hop profile up front with grapefruit and pine, along with cracker, biscuit, and just enough caramel malt sweetness to balance.

Mouthfeel -- Medium-bodied, moderate prickly carbonation. Somewhat dry finish.

Drinkability -- There's certainly some commonality between this and Alpha King, but to me this beer was far more subtle, balanced, and drinkable. I could drink this all day long and would take this over my beloved Alpha King in a heartbeat. Can't be missed!

The final beer of the night at the Local Option. What a good choice to finish it all off.

A- Ugly as sin. This disgusting cap and collar is a tragedy. It has an awkward hunchback of Notre Dame skin. It lingers and disturbs me like a gang of school children with wiffle bats.

The color of the fluid is magenta mixed with blood.

S- Caramels, apples, strawberry, grapefruit, floral notes that may be roses, uncut grass, lemons, and the fusion of the previous two.

T- Caramel apple mash right off the bat. Fantastic. The following batter is the lemongrass amalgam coming around that morphs into the hops. The finish is the sweetness of grapefruit and strawberry salad.

M- Full in feeling, wonderful carbonation where I want it, lingering presence on the tip of my tongue that is enjoyable. There is a bitter resin residue left on my lips.

D- This was the highlight of the night. So delicious and evolutionary throughout the experience. Very very easy to drink and would do it again in a heartbeat.
