Pours pitch black. 1 finger tan head. Retention is good. Some lacing on the glass.
The nose has a bit of barrel on it. The nose is fairly minimal beyond it.
Taste - Deep, and rich. Some chocolate, and lactose, mixed in with some flavor from the barrel mixed in.
The body is thick and rich and creamy.
Tasty BA milk stout, and a solid hit from 3 Floyds.

Moloko, the barrel aged edition, is a dark, dense libation. It's black on the pour but if held directly to the light splinters of cola brown can be spotted. The foam is foamy...and dark, like milk chocolate. It sticks around for a minute or two but fizzles down a whispy head shortly thereafter. It looks big and bold and boozy, as it should.
Whew! This one aged well. Big barrel characteristics get it started, but in a unique way. The oak and caramel together take the form of walnut, pith and flesh. Walnut is first to hit the nose with spicy oak and gobs of caramel following. An undercurrent of vanilla wraps up the barrel aspect, this all hugs a sturdy roast. The roast is fairly deep with a cocoa nib and black coffee backing. A splash of cream. Worn leather. Sophistication.
Walnut and spicy oak get this bastard on a roll. The roast is softer than the nose led on but still brings a touch of bitterness. The oak pushes through the finish but is met in the middle by dark caramel. A touch of lactose sweetness in the middle evens out that roast. Cocoa nibs, caramel, coffee grounds, and softly boozy bourbon bring about that sweet heat. This is damn fine.
The body has some weight off the bat, a few ticks shy of full. The bubbles are light, not providing much push, and the weight slowly decreases to a few ticks over moderate by swallow time. The barrel brings about some tannins that can be felt on the gums and sides of the tongue while that, the alcohol, and the roastiness bring about a drying finish. This stuff is pretty dangerous in the drinkability category.
Bourbon Barrel Moloko is mighty fine. Nice presentation, cool label. The Floyd's pulled the soul out of the barrel they used and it shows in this beer. Delicious barrel characteristics around an already impressive beer. Tons of depth and complexity with balancing counterpoints.

Wow this one did amaze. 2014 bottle in 2021. Super good, no mentionable flaws. Great barrel and stout flavors. Nose of chocolate, wood. Taste with vanilla, coffee, chocolate.
