Poured into an HotD tulip on August 6th 2011.
Pours a clear golden color with slight tints of orange and a frothy white head that dissipates leaving little lacing. It pours like a lager so I wish there was more lacing and some deeper colors.
Smell has a thick sweet bready malt backbone with a solid hit of grapefruit, and other citrus hops. I like the aromas I get and maybe its just an older bottle(no dating) but I feel that it need some more hop character to balance the huge malt bill.
Taste has a lot more of the hops that I am desiring, grapefruit, and other citrus hits. There is some booze but not terrible, a little burning mixes well with a hop bitterness slap. Very nice much better then the smell and appearance would have led me to believe.
Mouthfeel is medium weight and moves very smooth other then some bitterness and a tad of alcohol burn from the 9.00 ABV. Nice carbonation that has some slight bubbling tingle through the pallet.
Overall this is a very solid DIPA. It takes a couple hits because of the mellowed out hop aroma and an appearance that looks more like an adjunct lager then a DIPA. That said its a very nice beer and will definitely be looking for it again.
