Poured from bomber into a Koningshoeven Trappist ale glass, and it looked as already described here many times: golden orange haze, thin-laced, little to if any head.
First impression of smell was soap, faint peach, some apricot and lemongrass. Longer beer sat, the more I picked up on the citrus distinguishing itself from the copious, lovely overt bitterness that dominated my mouth. Speaking of which...
Tastes, well, soapy, strongly carbonated, great bitter taste for those that could care less about balance and all about hops. Some grapefruit came through the longer the beer sat at room temperature.
Mouthfeel was, haha, well, soapy initially, with nice bite from carbonation, but it rounded out to a, dare I say, desirable dry finish that had me needing another sip.
Very obviously a dry hopped beer, and rightfully so -- this wolf lives up to its Double IPA standard!
For what it's worth and what it is -- a DIPA -- I applaud the fellas at Trip Floyds; they can do no wrong in my book! However, if you want a more balanced Imperial assault, stick with Dreadnaught. But, if you're truly a hopdome, which I am, this beer will suit you nicely.
