APPEARANCE: Bright orange, but hazy. The head is only about a quarter-inch thick and dies down right away, leaving a few wisps on the surface. No lacing to speak of.

SMELL: There is tropical fruit and tangerine all over this beer and it is delicious smelling. There’s a touch of pine lingering in the background and the slightest hint of mint. Bottled about three weeks ago, it’s not surprising this smells so fresh.

TASTE: The biggest surprise here is the bitterness, and it’s a pleasant surprise. After the nose, I expected a sweeter, fruitier beer. The fruit is still very much there, tropical, citrus; all with that tangerine still out in front, but grapefruit and grass make a huge splash, mid-sip and ride it out until the end. Again, some hints of mint and maybe a touch of anise at the very end.

MOUTHFEEL: It’s weird to say this about a beer that literally makes your tongue curl from bitterness, but it’s pretty well balanced. That tongue curling only happens on the back end of the sip after a sweet punch early. Maybe balanced is the wrong word, a nice contrast sums it up a little better. The body is medium and the sparkle is light, but lingers for a longer time than the palate expects it to.

OVERALL: This is a real treat to be able to drink this fresh out here in Colorado. That is part of what I miss about living in Chicago; fresh FFF. Overall, this is an excellent Double IPA, I still think I prefer Dreadnaught though.

Been itching to try this. Here goes:

A: Good. Not very clear, though - in fact, this beer pours rather cloudily and there are a lot of hop particles floating in the solution. The head and lacing were great, though. Dark orange in color.

S: Not as impressive as some of their other offerings, but still good. Large apricot and pineapple/tropical hop presences - also a lot of grapefruit. There's also a noticeable amount of sweet caramel malt. One of the smells, however, is a little...off. Kind of like astringent cat piss, but the smell isn't really potent compared to the other ones.

T: Good. Hops followed by a perceptible (but faint) tang of sweet caramel malt. Hops follow the nose. Of note, the pissy smell is a little stronger in the taste than in the smell. Kind of a drawback. However, you can tell that it's still a well-made beer, relatively speaking.

Of special note, this beer is nowhere near as balanced as FFF's other offerings (Dreadnaught, ZD, Alpha King, Gumballhead). Lots of hops but a very poor malt profile.

F: Good. Thick, well-carbonated, glides on the tongue.

O: A good beer with one drawback.
