Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a tulip pint glass.
A: Slightly hazy, light amber color with over one finger of off-white foam head. Moderate, bleached-white lacing remains on the glass and sparse bubbles rise through the column in diffuse formations.
S: Mellow, with balanced green herbaceous plant stems and crystal grain.
T: Begins off-dry, with effusive orange citrus (turning toward peach nectar as it warms) and more nuanced spicy herbaceous hop aromatics. Malt is also present, pale and slightly bready, while citric acidity is under tight control into the middle. Aromatics turn to bitter grapefruit peel as malt retreats through the second act. The finish is moderately bitter but still lusciously affected by the dry hops, emanating green and citrusy qualities.
M: Thin to medium viscosity, soft on the palate, with moderate carbonation.
D/O: This beer shines through the effective application of Citra dry hopping, with qualities that are usually reserved for draft only releases that briefly see the light of day at the nation's better beer bars. If it were an IPA, the smell would be questionable; as an APA it is satisfactory. It's appeal is mighty because the brewer was not tempted to over-reach and strive for a high gravity monster. Like some other of the best hops delivery vehicles around, this beer is better for being a "mere" pale ale.
