Enjoyed thanks to the generosity of SammyJaxxxx out of a 12 oz brown bottle. No dating that I can locate. Poured into a 16 oz nonic style tumbler.

Appearance - An aggressive pour yields a finger and a half of soapy chiffon colored foam. It's sudsy and heavy looking and sits atop a glowing orange peel colored body. Slight haze from the chill and an amber shadow hovers beneath the head with spun gold highlights. Retention is great as the larger bubbles slowly burst and the center begins to sink, leaving light sheets of lacing on the sides of the glass that eventually fade to sparse residue.

Smell - Bright and aromatic with citrus notes of orange, tangelo, starfruit and even mango. I've head a lot about this functionally being an IPA, but the aroma lacks some of the pungency that I would expect from an IPA. As is, it just smells like a pale ale, but with an intoxicating complexity that doesn't overpower. After the citrus clears, you are left with pine and garden herbs, especially thyme or perhaps basil.

Taste - My first swig is hard to stop, it's so clean and bright. It reminds me of fruit juice, but with no sweetness other than a faint aftertaste of light biscuit and shortbread. Again, citrus is on full display, but without the mouth wallop that often comes with an IPA. As it warms, the initially faint bitter aftertaste becomes more pronounced, balancing well with the fruity citrus. Here the pine is still detectable, but more faint than in the aroma.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied and juicy, with carbonation on the light side of moderate. Slightly bitter finish.

Overall, a beer that came with a great deal hype, and one that comes about as close as something can come to living up to it's own massive reputation. I'm especially impressed at how they managed to get big hop flavor on display without turning this into a full-bore IPA flavor profile. It managed to have depth and yet still be light. If only it were easier to get...

A- Really nice dark, orange. Poured with a thick off white head with really great retention. After sitting for a few minutes the head is holding strong. Very cloudy ale, but nothing floating around. Really, really nice looking.

S - Lots of hops. Very citrusy aroma. It smells so clean and fresh. Unbelievable.

T - HOLY SH%T! A pale ale that has no taste of a lager lingering around. I can imagine myself drinking nothing but this beer for the rest of my days and I'm really ok with that. Sadly this will be my last one, at least for now.

M - Tastes clean and crisp. Lots of carbonation, which I love in hoppy ales. Very smooth and doesn't leave too much hop oil on the palette.

O - Best pale ale of all time? Probably. Really glad my good friends hooked me up with this. One of the best beers I've had, and really glad it lived up to its reputation. I'm giving it a perfect review. If you don't like it, I hope a Zombie kills you.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass

A: Nice light amber with a bit of haze. Lost of lacing after a 3 finger head diminishes into a nice sheen.

S: Big citrus and spicy hops with just a bit of toffee underneath it all.

T: Big hops. Grapefruit peel and other citrus notes that go into a bit of malt into a nice end: a nice spice aftertaste.

M: Nice medium light feel.

O: Great beer as always from my friends up north in Munster, IN.
