A - Hazy amber-orange color. About a two-finger off-white head with good retention, left a ring of foam at the edge as it faded.

S - Lots of grapefruit! Some mango, some tangerine, just overall really tropical fruit-y overall.

T - Follows the nose. A ton of grapefruit and a pretty large amount of tropical fruit. A little bit of piney bitterness. Definitely very tasty!

M - On the lighter side of medium-bodied. Not quite as carbonated as I expected. Just a little bit of oiliness that built up throughout the beer, which almost reminded me a little of the texture of grapefruit juice.

O - Very good! The tropical fruit and grapefruit notes were really enjoyable, and the scent was really just fantastic!

Poured from a 12oz bottle into my Night Shift tulip. Huge, huge thanks to my friend Bobby for giving me this massive want of mine.

Pours a cloudy amber-orange with a lovely two-finger head eggshell-white head. Good head retention--maybe 4 minutes or so--before it gradually subsides to a thin ring of suds around the edge of the glass. Plentiful and sticky lacing, albeit fairly wispy.

On the nose...welp, this is definitely a Citra beer. Potent grapefruit leads the charge out of the glass, with only slightly subtler notes of orange, mango, and papaya not far behind. Some onion and cat piss dankness poke through the tropical fruit and citrus bombardment. Truly a phenomenal-smelling beer.

Taste largely follows the smell, and is equally delicious. Massive grapefruit on the front of the palate gives way to a veritable explosion of tropical fruit mid-palate. Mango, papaya, passionfruit, even some strawberry...it's all there. Sweet earthy malts mingle pleasantly to remind you that despite all appearances to the contrary, this is not quite an IPA. A touch of racey piney bitterness on the back of the palate mingles with lingering sweet fruitiness and subtle vegetal hop notes.

Mouthfeel was interesting in that it felt a bit thin on the front of the palate, then a bit thick and oily on the back. A good level of carbonation keeps the beer from feeling too watery on the front of the palate, though, while it similarly prevented the back from becoming too sticky.

On the whole, while I contest ZD's classification as a pale ale and not an IPA, there is no doubt in my mind that it is phenomenal regardless of style. A truly delicious beer that I will be actively seeking out more of.
