On draft at the FFF Brew Pub during DLD, transferred to a Three Philosophers snifter

A: pours a golden orange color with a 1 finger white head that leaves a nice lacing pattern
S: citrus hops, orange peel, hint of yeast

T: a rush of citrus hoppy bitterness contrasted nicely by a slightly sweet citrus flavor of tangerines and clementines, some bready malt

MF: light to medium bodied, moderate carbonation, crisp

Overall: excellent beer, easy to drink, quite flavorful, bitter hops are contrasted nicely by some semi-sweet citrus flavor, would really like to get more of this

Poured into new belgium snifter from 62 oz growler at sun king brewery. Enjoyed courtesy of aasher. Color is borderline copper with a hint of orange or apricot. Foam head is a little more than half a finger.

Smell is straight pine and orange citrus. Reminds me of the the first whiff i got of Quinnanan falls despite the insane difference in their styles.

Taste is very piney without any super grapefruit hop aftertaste. Extremely clean and refined. Crisp like a lager with the right amount of citrus and hops

This beer is the truth, just get it, or find someone that still has a growler

Aroma: Not a very big aroma, but there is light citrus, floral hops and hints of pine.

Appearance: Hazy golden color with a white head, leaves sheets of lace sticking to the glass.

Taste: Citrusy orange and grapefruit, grassy and slight floral hops balanced well with a sweet malt profile. The bitterness is very low.

Mouthfeel: Very light feeling, bordering watery. Medium carbonation.

Overall: This is one hell of a session beer. The taste and mouthfeel is a lot more tame then I am used to from 3 Floyds, but this was such an enjoyable brew that I sessioned through an entire growler in one evening; I suggest you do the same to compare results.

Notes: Three Kings is a collaborate brew between 3 Floyds and SunKing to commemorate their alliance to change the archaic brewery laws in the state of Indiana. Available for a limited time at both SunKing and 3 Floyds, get it before it runs out!

This beer was courtesy of the amazing guys at Sun King. They dropped off a few growlers for us with our normal order since our store is one of their largest accounts. It pours a clear honey gold in color with a light lacing that sits atop the brew and laces the sides. The aromas are to die for! The hops are straight in your face and lost somewhere in between Gumballhead and Alpha King. This beer is bliss to the nose and utterly perfect. This is the second time I've had this and it made me smile instantly both times. The hops are sharp, piny, resinous, and crisp. They don't overstay their welcome and are just perfect for a 6% brew. Based on the judging protocol for the style, I really don't know why I didn't give this a 5 for taste. It is near perfect. The hops remind me of Cerveza Mysterioso and the hop profile drives me nuts. It drinks perfectly for the style and doesn't stick to the palate. It is perfectly spaced. Wow, 3 Kings is a top notch brew worthy of distribution. Search this one out since it's a one time offering. Cheers to both Sun King and 3 Floyds for this collaboration!

Thanks to kstrickler for this growler, poured into a shaker pint glass.

A- A dull hazy golden color. Medium pour produced roughly two fingers of white head. Head dissipated into thin covering. Minimal lacing on the glass.

S- There wasn't all that much to the smell; had to let it sit for a while to get what little citrus zest there was. There was a slight funky yeast smell to it, as well, but also muted.

T- Much better than the smell, but also pretty muted. There was a mild grapefruit taste that was not bitter at all. Also some fresh bread qualities that mixed nicely. It is refreshing.

M- Light-medium body with good carbonation. Lingers on the palate for half a minute. Crisp finish. Easy drinker.

O- This is more of a Sun King beer than Three Floyds, though it is still a nice easy drinker. Would I go out of my way for another? No. It is easy to drink with a low abv, yet I prefer each brewery's normal APA. This joint project was too muted to compete well.

A - Dull golden color with a small white head that faded to an uneven ring with some far lace on the sides.

S - Dank hops, grapefruit, and citrus are the primary aromas. There is a great smell of guava that comes up here as well.

T - Taste is inline with the nose. Some mild grapefruit and citrus. What seems to taste like guava is a nice addition. Reminds me of a mellow Columbus IPA with some guava. Very nice.

M - Lighter since of medium bodied with soft carbonation.

O - A really nice beer that is highly sessionable. Recommended, especially if you like APAs.

On tap at the brewpub.
Served in a nonic imperial pint.
Enjoyed with fries and chipotle mayo.

From the menu:
An American pale ale that was brewed with our friends and co-political activists at Sun King Brewing Co.
50 IBU. 5.4% ABV. $5 imperial pint.

A slightly hazy golden yellow body with a white head of 2 fingers. The lacing is beautiful- thick, sticky, sheets of fine bubbles don't form rings, they form curtains. Glorious.
The smell is light malt, kinda toasted bread, perhaps even pilsner malt? The hops are nice. Not mind-blowing like the Citra hop hits on Zombie Dust, but still quite nice. Lemon zest, andsrink oranges, and grapefruit. The grapefruit comes though as a huge flavor on the finish, with other citrus notes in the supporting role. The malts are light, just a nice nuance that makes this insanely drinkable.

This is another beer from Floyds that I could happily kill a growler of. The body is light and well carbed. Bright and tasty.

It is almost like a cross between Osiris Pale Ale and Alpha King... And it works pretty well.

Imbibed at FFF Brewpub 04/15/2011

Appearance -- Pours a hazed honey hue with a lily-white cap of foam. Looks handsome.

Smell -- Not much going on: pale bready malt, slight graininess, fresh grassy hops, and a dab of bright citrus. Inoffensive, but not especially aromatic.

Taste -- Clean breadiness with slight honey sweetness and some faint husky grain, mild floral and citrus hop flavor. Lingering flavor of spring grasses.

Mouthfeel -- Medium-light in body with moderate carbonation. Feels good.

Overall -- Meh. It's nice, but it don't like it as much as Alpha King or Pride & Joy. Tastes much more like Sun King's APA, Osiris, than anything FFF has done on their own. Good beer, better cause.

Additional Notes -- I'm surprised that my review differs so much from the other reviews. Can't explain it.

I was disappointed to go home with this instead of zombie sprinkles, but waited a week to drink it and let go my bitterness about that.
A: brassy golden orange, slight chill haze. Creamy head really persists. Nice lacing.
S: not mind blowing like zombie, but still some nice citrus and floral notes, some doughy malt underneath.
T: dryish. Lightly sweet bready malts are washed out by a smooth hop bitterness. Maybe just a touch astringent but not in a puckering way. Crisp on the end.
M: lively, frothy. Just over light bodied.
O: I waffled between 4 and 4.5 on every score on this one. Could put back a few of these and not tire of it. In fact that is the plan.

On tap at Three Floyds the afternoon before DLD '11. This brew appears a clear copper color with less than a finger of white fluff for a head. It clings in patches about the glass. A light swirl revives the fluff back to almost a finger's strength.

The aroma is fruity hops with some rinds and toasty to caramel malt sweetness. The sweetness of the malt primarily comes through the back with the floral hops mostly upfront. Not a bad aroma, it's well rounded and smells enjoyable with nothing offputting. Perhaps my only gripe is it seems a bit muted even as the glass warms.

The taste includes both fruity and floral hop components. A toasty malt backing provides an accenting role of sweetness for the fruit-like hops to play off. Faint sulfur and mineral inclusion is present as it warms along with an increasing grassy hop character. The aftertaste is a confusing mixturenof toasted malt, grass and some buttery notes.

This is a light bodied brew that is acceptably lightly carbonated. It is fairly easy drinking and well rounded. It is worth giving a try. The abv is seemingly completely absent from this brew which could prove to be a problem while throwing a few of this back effortlessly.

Collaboration with Sun King & Three Floyds on-tap at the BrewPub. Served in an imperial nonic.

A - Pours a light hazy yellow, nice white head, lots of nice rings of lacing as the beer goes down and a thin cap on top.

S - Light hops, bitterness, slight citrus, orange peel. Very refreshing with the citrus/hop aroma.

T - Solid dose of hops, bitterness, citrus. All very light and subtle, but still providing a great overall taste. Refreshing. There's a slight bitter finish that sicks around briefly.

M - Light, crisp and refreshing, good carbonation.

O - Perfect APA for the summer and really solid. I enjoy both offerings from Sun King and Three Floyds, so the combo works out perfectly for me. Recommend!

A- Pours a slightly hazy golden yellow color with a nice white head. Head turns into a ring of bubbles around the edge and leaves some nice spotty lacing down the glass.

S- Orange zest, grapefruit, a bit sweet malts and grassy hops.

T- Taste is a lot like the nose with just a bit of bitterness. Has a great flavour.

M- Lighter side of medium and a nice carbonation.

O- Wow this is super easy to drink. I'm enjoying this and it goes very well the Mac and Cheese at the pub.

Had this twice in the past couple days, courtesy of Chris and Sean. Thanks guys. Served in various tulip glasses.

A - A finger-plus of white foam settles to a thick collar and patches of wispy bubbles, along with spotty lace. Lightly hazed golden body.

S- Citrus zest, particularly oranges, light icing sugar, a bit of yeast character. Reminds me of creamsicle actually. Quite enjoyable aroma.

T - Taste is a bit more yeasty and bready, with a healthy amont of citrus, light sugary malt, and mild bitterness. It's pretty nice, but not as good as the aroma.

M - Dry, medium-light body, medium carbonation. Some juicy character to the body, and quite smooth and easy-drinking, with no obvious alcohol.

D - Very easy to drink. I could (and will) drink a lot of this one. No booze, pleasant feel, great aroma - all the necessary requirements for a good session beer.
