Opened a roughly 5 year old bottle of this beer during a marathon tasting session with Phil. This beer started in Indiana, got packed up when I finished college in 2007, came home and has sat in my cellar until tonight.
MASSIVE mocha head on top of a DARK beer with hints of ruby barely shining through. Decent lacing, and the head recedes to a 1cm on top of the beer.
Martinelli's apple juice is what I smell on the nose, no doubt due to the age of the thing. Hint of chocolate as well. Dark fruits here and there as well.
Smooth as silk on the mouth. Chocolate (milk?), with a hint of roast. Mellow smooth carbonation too.
We've had a lot of porters during the tasting marathon that this week has been. This one has been no exception to greatness. I only regret waiting this long to open it. Fantastic beer none the less.

A: Pours a murky brown-black with an enormous, thick khaki head that takes some time to recede.
S: Aromas of coffee, dark chocolate, cocoa powder, burnt toast, roasted grain, and kola nut vie for dominance against aromas of grass, herbs, grapefruit, lemon, lime, bitter orange, and juniper berry.
T: The entry offers up notes of coffee, dark chocolate, heavy cream, vanilla bean, leather, burnt toast, dried black cherry, kola nut, and roasted grain which are chased by flavors of lemon, lime, grapefruit, kumquat, bitter orange, herbs, grass, cedar, and juniper berry. The finish is slick and oily with a turbulent balance of roasted malt, bitter citrus, and pungent herb flavors.
M: Medium-bodied, slick, and silky. Carbonation is gentle and unobtrusive. All in all, this beer could stand to feature carbonation that is a little firmer, but this is a very minor qualm.
O: This is an excellent porter, one that expertly presents a balance of malt and hop aromas and flavors. I would recommend it highly to fans of the style.
