Picked up a bottle of this when I was recently in Cleveland. More than excited to see it and try it.
Poured from a 22oz bottle into a tulip.
Pours jet black with a small, but lasting off-white head. Other reviews really made it seem like there was tons of carbonation, but mine was a perfect amount. Maybe from the age.
Beautiful nose to it. Coffee, chocolate and a surprising amount of hops.
First taste surprised me, unlike most porters where it's all roast, this one was a solid hop bitterness. Taste like Northern Brewer. Excellent. Hops was of course followed by a wonderful chocolate and roasted malt flavors. Hops rule this one though. Probably the most noticeable hop presence I've had in a porter/stout.
Mouth feel was thick and enjoyable. Carbonation was perfect and really brought out the aroma.
Final verdict, a really good beer. Not like any porter I've had. Maybe not something I'd crave every day, but for the cold night I was drinking it on while homebrewing, this was perfect. I paid $9 for this bottle though which I think is entirely to much. I do dislike that about 3 Floyds. I can't blame them, with the demand they have it's more than understandable. Just hard to know I could have bought 2 Old Viscosity's for the price of this, which is a much better beer.

A: Pours a murky brown-black with an enormous, thick khaki head that takes some time to recede.
S: Aromas of coffee, dark chocolate, cocoa powder, burnt toast, roasted grain, and kola nut vie for dominance against aromas of grass, herbs, grapefruit, lemon, lime, bitter orange, and juniper berry.
T: The entry offers up notes of coffee, dark chocolate, heavy cream, vanilla bean, leather, burnt toast, dried black cherry, kola nut, and roasted grain which are chased by flavors of lemon, lime, grapefruit, kumquat, bitter orange, herbs, grass, cedar, and juniper berry. The finish is slick and oily with a turbulent balance of roasted malt, bitter citrus, and pungent herb flavors.
M: Medium-bodied, slick, and silky. Carbonation is gentle and unobtrusive. All in all, this beer could stand to feature carbonation that is a little firmer, but this is a very minor qualm.
O: This is an excellent porter, one that expertly presents a balance of malt and hop aromas and flavors. I would recommend it highly to fans of the style.
