Poured from 650 ml bottle into an imperial nonic.
A: Very dark brown or black. A little carbonation. Pours about a 2 finger, frothy, brown head. Settles very slowly. Leaves a persistent ring as it does, and never fully dissipates. Substantial lacing.
S: Dark roast coffee, dark chocolate, baked bread, a little molasses, and just a touch of clove.
T: Roasted malt and coffee, unsweetened chocolate, and a little licorice. A touch of woody and peaty notes.
M: Thick, and hearty. Grainy and a little sweet in the front, a touch of peat in the end. Syrupy, lightly bittersweet aftertaste. A bit of a dry finish. Has a higher alcohol palette than what it actually is.
D: MMM. This is robust and hearty, but not overwhelming enough to slow you down.
Atmosphere is exceptional. Great dark appearance with a magnificent head. Nose is chock full of of great components. Well balanced flavor. Nothing overpowers, and it's not distracted by a high alcohol flavor. Overall, this is a great quaff.

Poured a dark mahogany. Fluffy light brown head. Plenty of sticky lace after each sip.
Smells of roasted coffee, coco nibs, and an herbal spiciness, maybe nutmeg or clove.
Dry baking coco flavors, followed by bitter coffee. A touch of caramel sweetness, but in no way cloying. Slight hint of Xmas spices. As in the smell, perhaps nutmeg or clove. Maybe both. Roasted malts are followed by an unexpected bitter hop twang. This is what separates this Porter from most. It works for me, the hops play off the bitter coffee and roasted malt flavors well.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied.
Overall one of the better Xmas style beers out there. Not too heavy on the spices, nor cloyingly sweet or alcoholic. Perhaps a bit out there for a Porter, but it is FFF after all.
