Poured from a 22 oz bottle to a nonic. Just purchased the last 2 at Kimbark Liquors in Hyde Park.
A: Very dark. I got very little, if any, light coming through. Had a large, substantial, and fluffy brownish head. Almost caramel-colored. It looks beautiful.
S: Roasted malts. dark chocolate. plus those iconic FFF hops. Hop aroma is distinctly reminiscent of alpha king. overall impression of the smell is piney plus roasted coffee with a chocolate tinge that just screams Christmas time to me. A porter underneath alpha king, perfect for winter.
T: Subtle coffee and dark chocolate notes. Prominent but not overbearing hops (a citrus mix that turns into pine for me). The aroma is better balanced, but I still enjoy the taste a lot.
M: Mouth feel is lighter than you would expect from looking at it. Makes it more drinkable, though I wouldn't mind this being a sipper.
D: Much more drinkable than I expected. Goes down almost too easily. The hops keep it refreshing.
Currently one of my favorite beers (I had a couple last year too). Try it with your christmas ham.

A: Pours a murky brown-black with an enormous, thick khaki head that takes some time to recede.
S: Aromas of coffee, dark chocolate, cocoa powder, burnt toast, roasted grain, and kola nut vie for dominance against aromas of grass, herbs, grapefruit, lemon, lime, bitter orange, and juniper berry.
T: The entry offers up notes of coffee, dark chocolate, heavy cream, vanilla bean, leather, burnt toast, dried black cherry, kola nut, and roasted grain which are chased by flavors of lemon, lime, grapefruit, kumquat, bitter orange, herbs, grass, cedar, and juniper berry. The finish is slick and oily with a turbulent balance of roasted malt, bitter citrus, and pungent herb flavors.
M: Medium-bodied, slick, and silky. Carbonation is gentle and unobtrusive. All in all, this beer could stand to feature carbonation that is a little firmer, but this is a very minor qualm.
O: This is an excellent porter, one that expertly presents a balance of malt and hop aromas and flavors. I would recommend it highly to fans of the style.
