A: With some steam behind her, the alpha klaus was set forth into an English style pint glass. It build up a mocha brown and tan colored head two fingers tall made of pillowey mixed bubbles. It fell fairly quick given the size and left behind a honey comb looking lacing on the edge of the glass. The beer is very dark brown on the verge of black only a few shards of light peak through.
S: Lots of strong roasted malts, coffee, cocoa and burnt toast. On the hop front I'm getting slight citrus note.
T: Consistent with the aroma, very roasty coffee and dark cocoa forward with some toast that is over done. Bitterness is moderate but with an interesting tropical fruit flavor. As it warms up, some nutty flavors come out and the chocolate flavor drops out slightly.
M: Creamy mouthfeel comes through with the moderate carbonation and big body.
O: A hoppy version of a porter with the a mix of traditional and some interesting new world hop flavors. Not my favorite, but it's worth a shot if you come across it.

A: Pours a murky brown-black with an enormous, thick khaki head that takes some time to recede.
S: Aromas of coffee, dark chocolate, cocoa powder, burnt toast, roasted grain, and kola nut vie for dominance against aromas of grass, herbs, grapefruit, lemon, lime, bitter orange, and juniper berry.
T: The entry offers up notes of coffee, dark chocolate, heavy cream, vanilla bean, leather, burnt toast, dried black cherry, kola nut, and roasted grain which are chased by flavors of lemon, lime, grapefruit, kumquat, bitter orange, herbs, grass, cedar, and juniper berry. The finish is slick and oily with a turbulent balance of roasted malt, bitter citrus, and pungent herb flavors.
M: Medium-bodied, slick, and silky. Carbonation is gentle and unobtrusive. All in all, this beer could stand to feature carbonation that is a little firmer, but this is a very minor qualm.
O: This is an excellent porter, one that expertly presents a balance of malt and hop aromas and flavors. I would recommend it highly to fans of the style.
