Alpha King’s festive cousin. A big American Christmas Porter brewed with English chocolate malt, Mexican sugar and of course, tons of strange American hops. Cheers!

50th Review!

A--Pours what appears to be black, but when held up to the light it shows the faintest transparency. About as close to black as brown can get. Head was about two fingers tall with a standard pour into a pint glass. A moderate amount of lacing was left behind.

S--Roasted malts, cocoa powder, caramel, faint woodiness, earthy hops, perhaps even a little bit of dark fruit. This is complex and very pleasant to the nose. The dominant scent seems to be the cocoa powder.

T--The taste is a wonderful balance between roasted malts and a strong hop presence that makes the finish just bitter enough to satisfy. The cocoa comes through as the beer warms, don't drink this one too fast although you might be tempted to. One more dimension, perhaps a little more chocolate or coffee would make this exceptional

M--Medium bodied roughly the consistency of skim milk, good carbonation levels. Nice hop/coffee-like bitterness in the aftertaste that doesn't stick around for too long.

D--Any easy drinking dark beer that makes you want more. Definitely in the ranks of world class porters.

The last of my stash o' Three Floyds brews, they went quickly... Dark dark brown, thin bits of ruby shining through around the edges with a bit of light. Nice foamy brown head, fades. Nice roasted malt and brownie mix nose. Sweet and inviting. Much the same in the tate. Great malty base to this one out front. Chocolate and molasses, roastyness all the way through. A slightly bitter resiny hop finish keeps this beer balanced. Really great flavors all over this one. Hope to get some more of this in time for the holidays next year. Cheers to alleykatking for hooking me up with a great mix of FFF.

A - Pours a dark brown, almost like wet brownie mix. Chunky tan head hovers over the top.
S - Oddly enough, this smells a lot like a rich chocolate brownie. There's also a bit of fresh pine in there, not really misplaced, but it does make the nose of this interesting. Some toasted coffee notes also.
T - Initial flavors were coffee, toffee, chocolate and as it left my palate I'm left with a piney chocolate flavor. Very interesting. I like it. Alot.
M - Nice and chewy, less chewy than a stout, but only slightly.
D - Could have several of these. No flavor is overpowering or hurts the palate.
